Drag world...what means...?
So I'm looking at the website for infineon (sears point) 'cause I'm thinking about going to their Wednesday night drags which are open to the public and there are a couple terms I don't know. I come from the world of Motocross so car racing is new to me. What means "dial ins" and "staging is at option of driver"?
"Dial in" is usually used in bracket racing where two cars of potentially vastly different power levels race against each other. You "dial in" your time - basically state up front how fast you'll run. There's a great explanation of bracket racing HERE
As far as "staging is at option of driver" all I can think of is that will allow you to deep stage if you so desire. See the section on THIS page below the picture of the christmas tree starting lights for a complete explanation including pros & cons.

Oh, one last thing - do NOT wait for the green light or you'll be really, really late. Leave on the last yellow.
Here's a link to my local strip.......they have a lot of good information for newbies!

Apkano, that was great, thank you
I went to the track last night to watch, but they only had 400 cars so the evening ended early, sheesh. Will try again on April 9th.

since im going there, it sounds like i'll be able to do only 1 run and with my luck, my tires will spin, then get bogged down and end up with a 15sec run or something.
if you're not joking, what time did it end?
I pulled up to the front gates at 9:20pm expecting to watch racing 'till 10:00.
The guard chatted with me for several minutes. He said it was over, they'd handed out the trophies and cash and everyone had gone home. I said I thought they raced 'till 10? He said it depended on how many cars showed up, sometimes they get done early. I asked him how many cars were there tonight. He said 400 and that they all had 4 runs. He was a nice enough guy, even asked questions about the crossfire. Didn't seem like he was pullin my leg. He said cars start arriving around 2pm and wait till the gates open at 3. I don't know how they can give 400 cars, 4 runs in 4 hours...seems like a lot to me but I'm no expert. As I was turning around to leave I looked over at the tower and parking area and sure enough, it was empty.

So I pulled in the entrance, was told to get in some line to get tech'd which took only enough time for me to fill out the form and the guy to ask me what motor i have in the car. I guess the tech guy has never seen an srt6 before.
Guy signs off the tech form and tells me to get in the car and follow some muscle car with a wheelie bar which turned out was going to be my dial-in run. I pretty much knew i'm going to be screwed and facing a slow run with heatsoak and no throttle reset.
Ended up doing 12.9 @ 107mph... not bad i thought considering i have brand new tires with just 300+ miles on it, running over the water box and forgot to take traction control off.
On my way to get my slip, guy told me he needed to speak with the "offender" being me :-) and that I can't race no more for 1) not having a helmet, and an NHRA approved roll bars which is required for convertibles faster than can do 13.49 or faster.
I gave em the "its my first time" deal and all i can get was a refund. I must say drag racing is actually fun albeit it'll only last 13 seconds or less. I guess i'll stick to doing road races.
Was hoping too that I get my CAI in time to try again next week im here in frisco... oh well
