Default Racing Modifications in Progress

This winter, we are in the process of modifiying my racing SRT6 for next year. So far, I just have pictures:

My brakes are big and from Stop Tech.

Next, coilovers instead of Koni's and Eibachs.

I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival and will start to take pictures of our progress.

Many thanks to Rob at Needswing for helping me with the homework and for making an idea happen.
If you are thinking of racing mods, talk with Rob.

Since I live in a currently cold state, not much racing at this time. So will work on the modifications and will report back when I start to race again.

Jane

Hey Rob, do all your brake kits come with the complimentary beverages?

Let's see, 1 beer, 1 Snapple, and 1 Dr. Pepper... the D.P. is to get you going before the install, the Snapple for during the install, and the beer to celebrate after you're done. Nice.

Can't wait to see the install pics, Jane!

Indeed, the boxes arrived today. I haven't opened them yet to see if they come with snapple and beer, but I'll let you know. Doubt is the Motul will be tasty. Will load the car up and take over to my mechanic by the end of this week. I'll keep you posted.

here are some more pictures i took. notice there are both koni and kw stickers on the housings. it is a koni housing with kw spec'd internals. koni and kw work togather in germany and kw decided to use the koni housing for a lot of the mercedes audi and vw applications. they are NOT the same koni's we sell separatly. it caught me off gaurd when i first opened the box so i called the engineer at KW and verified all part numbers and got the scoop on the situation. so dont be alarmed by the koni sicker on the housing. this setup is height and rebound adjustable and will rock for you at the track! remember to tell the alignment guy the specs we talked about earlier. if you lost those let me knwo and ill email them back over but i dotn want to give your full formula away

open the smallest box yourself before it goes to the mechanic as i put some goodies in there for you

if you have a chance please zap me a picture of the carbotech pads as i forgot to take pctures of those.

with all the threads on modifying the crossfire hood, I wish someone would lay up a decent wide front fender kit so we can mount wider rims up front.

All you need is a rollcage and fire-suppression system and you'll have a bona-fide race car! :-)

I've had KW's for at least two years now and one thing i can tell you is it's a PITA to adjust the height. It's not as simple as just using the wrench provided. You have to remove the springs each time to adjust the height. Also, eventually, one side (driver side) will sit lower than the other side.

Depending on how low you lower your car and if you can't stand the way the rims are tucked way in the wheel wells, you might opt for putting in wheel adapters (not spacers) to push them out.

I've had some custom made for mine which have proven to be road-race safe.

Enjoy your new goodies and be safe!

Well, I finally have my car back and modified, thanks to mechanic, Tom. I've attached some photos, but the rest are in my gallery. The car is lowered and the brakes are on. Initially, I thought the car was too low as there were rubbing noises, but Tom did some magic and now nothing rubs. I'm still working with my tire place. For some reason, they put too much camber and at 55 mph, my steering wheel shakes way too much. So, back to Rabens for more work.

For the suspension, Tom cut out two tiny three sided squares in the back so I can adjust the suspension. That is so cool so I can tighten or loosen depending on the track situation.

I'm planning on driving on March 28th at Putnam with Speed 100, so I should get a lot of seat time and time to adjust to the new suspension and great brakes. Then, I will be moving out of my comfort zone and hope to be at Mid Ohio May 8-10th.

So, my thanks to Rob at Needswings for helping me with the homework and procurring the KW coilovers and Stoptech brakes and many thanks to my racing mechanic, Tom, for guiding me and making these mods happen.

I'll keep you posted of my progress once I get back on the track.

Jane

I'm liking those 2 piece front rotors.................and am wondering how much lighter that setup is(with calipers) than stock??? Also can you run just the rotors with the stock calipers?

I'm all about saving weight now since making more power is pretty much out of the question without sucking on a bottle.

I'm not able to answer that question. You want less weight and I want to stop. Maybe when Rob reads this, he can answer your questions. Sorry I can't be of more help. All I can tell you is that when my racing mechanic took it out to bed the brakes, he said something like these are "Oh my God brakes." I took that as a good sign.

Oh my gosh that looks great! I went to my first autocross event and I'm hooked. Lots of my searches for answers take me to your posts, Jane. I'm anxious to hear how you like the Stoptech big brake kit. As far as the KW's, I'm told that you need to adjust them individually because 1 1/2 turns on one is not necessarily the same as 1 1/2 turns on the other. (could be just talk, I really don't know for sure) Just keep that in mind when you start turning the adjusters. How much modification did you have to do for the KW's to fit. Needswings website mentions notching or cutting which has me looking elsewhere. Anyway, great to see the progress and looking forward to seeing the results of the changes.

Les
