I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I haven't been to the track since I was at Mid Ohio back in May. I took time off this summer to study for my boards. Have done some autocross this past month. Now, I'm looking forward to going to Putnam Park on Sunday. My car feels good and is performing well. Just hope I can get my groove back and drive her proud at the track.
I'll be at Putnam on Sunday only. Riders are welcome, just bring your helmut, wear a long sleeve shirt and no open toe shoes. I hope I can get some pictures to post. Jane |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Jane, is this a practice drive to prepare for TMS? ;)
Best wishes and be safe! |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Glad to see you getting back in the drivers seat. I love photos and especially video. Have fun first and go fast second.

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I'm back. Had a great time with long sessions. Drove about 140 minutes. Was honored that James and his wife showed up. He rode two sessions with me and he has lived to tell about it. I have no pictures as I'm driving, but James probably will have some, so I'll let his pictures tell the story.
I think I have a new problem with the car. Every new problem causes me to learn more about cars. James has started the educational process by teaching me about bearings. He also helped me with the autostick. Many thanks, James, for making me a better driver. So, back to my racing mechanic for a few more lessons. It was sure good to be at the track today. Just a brief little blog from me today, my dear Crossfire friends. James will be the one to tell the story. |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
140 minutes is a crazy long time to be on the track in one day. The most I can get is 60 minutes. I look forward to the whole story from James. Glad you had good a time with friends in attendance.

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I'll be back at Putnam Park this Saturday. I'll be with 10/10ths Motorsports which is turning out to be a really good group to drive with. Lots of seat time. I'll bring an extra helmut if anyone wants to stop out. I'm allowed to have passengers.

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Its a great time in the car if you haven't expierenced it. If I didn't have plans already, I'd be there for ya.

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Good luck Jane! I'm racing this weekend too. As always I'll be looking for photos and videos of the occasion. (I hope to have a few of my own.)

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Thanks, Les. Got the bearings changed in the passenger side rear, so I'm looking forward to seeing if it made the grinding any better.
I'll be autocrossing on Sunday, too. Then, it's prep time to get my other car ready for the texas motor speedway. Lots of fun experiences coming up. Have fun racing as well. Jane |

Another 140 minutes seat time today. Had to come in at the end cause I was out of gas. The car did pretty well, but I dealt with tire pressure issues today. I usually don't have much problems with tire pressures but I sure did today. The car was a bit funny in the straight away at 120 mph. The car felt like it was moving right and left. I had some young guys readjust my suspension and I put more air in the tires as the track was not as hot today which did help.
I did get to ride in the Cobra today. Cool experience. The door opened up while I was in it, so thank God I was in a harness. Believe it or not, I passed the Lamborghini; not sure why. I think this kid, who is in the picture, had more car than what he knew how to handle. Why he would bring this type of car to the track is beyond me, but I 'm sure it had somthing to do with testosterone. But, I still passed it, so I will just relish the moment. Tomorrow is autocross. From one extreme to the next. |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I'm glad you had fun! So, refresh my memory, what happened to you when you first went out with your Pilot Sport Sups? I remember but "you know who" had the same excitement. I did some great fishtailing during the first heat trying to pass a Mitsubitchy Evo and in the second, it seems I dropped a wheel in the grass and ended up doing a 360! Lots of smoke but no wreck. I'm getting a reputation, I don't know if it's a good or bad one but at least I'm not one of the invisible men on track day.
Tomorrow is the day all the exotics go to the track and I'll be there with the little woman. She's drinking at the moment because I showed here the videos of my adventures. My brother has a Cobra so I have an idea of the fun you had today. Oh, what did the rear wheel bearing sound like when it was going bad? I think my right rear could be going South. I pity the poor souls that don't get to experience a day at the track with a Crossfire. We are a special few. Keep the "adventures of Jane" coming. Les |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I'm planning to join the fun next summer. Drag racing is fun, but I need some DRIVING. :D So I think road racing is next on the list. I can't wait!
See ya at the Dragon, Jane! |
Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
Tom: Look forward to seeing you as well.
Les: The original problems with the sport cups were that I had them overinflated. With road racing, you have to let some air out. The best sticking PSI is 30-32 with the sport cups. Today, my tires weren't getting that hot and I had to put more air in. Also, because of all the right turns, my driver's side front tire gets hotter than the rest. I usually start off with 26 PSI as I gain 7 pounds of pressure, but today, the tires were only going up 4-5 pounds, so I have to compensate. In regards to the bearings, you'll notice a grinding noise when you are turning the car. Say for instance you are turning left, you'll hear the grinding which resolves when straightening the wheel. If you are turning left, then look at the right wheels, and visa versa. There is a lot more road noise. Les, I didn't spin today, but I did go off track, just at the end of the session. No harm done and I was fine, just drove back on track and then pitted. It happens. Just learn from it and be glad you were not hurt. Also, Tom and Les and anyone else, if you see events by 10/10ths Motorsports, I just want to say this is a really good group. It's run by a man named Bill Neal who has done a really good job with these events. So, when you look up your local track, if you see a 10/10ths event, consider it strongly. Hopes this helps. Good luck |

Re: I'm going to Putnam Park this weekend
I'll be at Putnam Park this weekend. If any of you don't have anything to do, stop by. You can drive the track at lunch time, which is a lot of fun to do. 60 mph and no helmets. This will be a High Performance Driver Ed with Kentucky Porsche Car Club. Unfortunately, you won't be able to ride with me, but you can drive over the lunch break.
This is the final weekend for me to race. Hard to believe that I'll be getting the car ready for storage. Anyway, just thought I would invite fellow Crossfire owners. Jane |

Well, my racing seaon is now done. On my last session, everything was grinding - brakes and tires. I didn't know what was going on. So, I pitted. I packed up and drove home and the car seemed fine. I'll have to check out my brakes and tires and everything else when I get the car readied to store.
So here are some pictures. I'm starting to think more seriously about a tune as I think I'm ready for some more horse power. On my last session, they combined both the red and blue groups, (the top 2 groups - I had been in blue all weekend.) Anyway, if I'm going to continue to race, I really need some more horses to keep up with the rest. Until next spring, Jane |
