night at the strip
Thumper SRT6,,RMADERMAN,,and myself went to palm beach int. raceway friday night, going there we though we were going to get stormed,, not just rained out, we had such a south fla. storm that people were pulled over and would not drive in it,, we got to the track and they were drying it so we could run,, because of the rain most racers stayed away, there may have been 20 cars there, between Randy, Chuck and myseld we had almost no one to run I don't remember the times for Randy or chuck but here are my times,, now this is after Wayne tried to tune my car and something was wrong with the ecu he couldn't tune it i ran
80 degrees thumper knows the da hum and so forth maybe he will post that. with his times.
1, 60' 1.85 1/4 12.601 @ 110.63
2, 60' 1.90 12.662 @ 110.53
3, 60' 1.93 12.673 @ 109.95
4, 60' 1.85 12.628 @ 110.48
now in the mist of all this the track manger came over to talk to us( yea i know him) he said the track was having ""king of the track "" the next day and gave me a free pass. so i had to go and be the only crossfire there. so Sat.8pm i get there, there must be 300 cars there, and the had a free dyno to anyone,, and lots of stuff going on til 2 am. the temp was higher it was 83 degrees any wan i got in 4 runs,, i finialy figered out this car and the lights,
1, RT .073 60' 1.93 1/4 12.801 @ 109.56 (round robin to # 2)
2, RT .086 60' 1.90 12.812 @ 109.51
let the car cool for an hour now # 3
3. RT .065 60' 1.87 12.566 @ 110.80 ( round robin to # 4)
4 RT -.17 60' 1.92 12.817 @ 109.79
when these cars get too hot they don't run as good but most of the time you will have a hour between runs,, now 12.56 in 83 degree weather and the humidity was 94%, ( you could just stand there and be ringing wet in 10 min. oh 12.56 in 83* and my best 12.40 in 51* go figure. I may have a vib later. jim

Jim, I'm surprised no one replied at all to this thread. Sounds like you guys had a great time indeed!
Maybe Chuck will finally chime in.Curious to see how he compares it to the Speedworld track.

So... I'm a month late in posting. Doh!
According to dragtimes, the DA was right around 1700'
My times:
1. 60' 2.091 1/4 12.764@110.80
2. 60' 1.960 1/4 12.744@109.28 (Raced against Jim. He did 12.601@110.63)
3. 60' 2.072 1/4 12.895@109.80
4. 60' 1.935 1/4 12.673@109.95 (This was also against Jim. He did 12.816@109.97. Noticed you didn't post this one Jim.
)
5. 60' 2.040 1/4 12.878@109.48
6. 60' 1.998 1/4 12.817@109.12
My impressions of the track:
Things I liked:
Very well lit all the way down the track. HUGE pit area going the length of the track, all paved and marked out. Much nicer than OSW in that regard.
Things I didn't like:
Tech was all the way at the end of the track. Felt like we had to drive 1/2 mile just to get there. If I didn't go with someone who knew the track, I probably wouldn't have found it.
Really difficult to not drive throught the water box, if you can even call it that. Seemed like the just spray water on the staging area. No real "box" to speak of. At OSW, the water box is an actual trough/dip and is easy to drive around. I think this is why my 60's weren't all that great (I run on street tires; Goodyear GS-D3's. I get better 60's overall at OSW).
The track felt a bit closed in. Don't know if the lanes are narrower than OSW or the walls are higher, or what. Just felt a bit weird.
Overall:
I had a great time, even with driving through a down pour to get there and waiting forever for them to dry the track. But hey, atleast they were open! The rain also kept people away. Could have done a bunch more runs, but it was hot and humid and I was all done after the 6 runs I made. Overall a pretty decent track, but I prefer OSW

+1. It be great to have more crossifires. Paul (Xray) is already hooked and plans on being a regular at the track. I'll be going more now that it's starting to cool off and it shouldn't rain as much. Now if only Neil didn't work nights so he can be there more often!
maybe holycrap (miami) can join me on the trip up to orlando and we can get some runs in five xfires at one track would be nice. jim
\note: right after the first of the year my daughter is getting married and moving to melbourne so i will be up there alot.
