awesome nite at beech bend
so i get a pm from a guy on the m/b forum asking , "are you going to beech bend sat?" weather looks good the car is running good so why not?
fast foward to the pits with my slk32 amg, a e63 amg, a slk55 amg, not 1 but 2 srt-6's and a turbo 240sx! grip, jhm2k, 13dog, stephen (240sx) and matt(e63) and myself all there to serve notice. all in all a great nite.
grip running his usual 11.9 12.0 while making a sandwich
i managed a backup 11.9 to my al. run and the rest of the guys having a few issues (timing, intakes and street tires all giving the cars a fit) but winning all the same! john has the fotos so i hope he will post and grips wife did video duty.
btw there was a noble running 11.8 and a some great cars. track was packed but i think we all got about 4 passes in before the nite ended
if you ever get a chance to go to beech bend do it its a great track and the folks there are awesome.

Awesome! I was at Beech Bend one time about 10 years ago with my classic '85 Corvette, running mid 13's, which wasn't bad since it only had 231 whp.
Did you say fluke or a flake? Nice job gentlemen, but I just got this note from Beach Bend about "wine tasting " in the pits from the AMG crowd. Not sure if the good 'ole boys are ready for you guys or not...lol...
would have loved to been able to run against grip again but no way we could lined up with all the cars. nick is seeing timing issues , john needs a different intake setup he was starving the car up top and the 240sx had no traction off the line. the e63 was bone stock on blizzacks so he didnt do as well as he could have but we had fun all nite.
my last run was gearing up to be a new p/b run. cool air cold car and nitefall. what do i do? rip the bag of ice removing it form the s/c!! half gal of water falls into the engine bay. ido a couple blasts to get rid of it, then during my launch i spew water all over the ground and spin thru it!! killed off the line for a 12.0 finish. grip said they needed a jet dryer after i launched!
will be drilling a few holes in the pan today
doc you would have loved to see 13dog driving up the I65 with the top down and a hard hat on! he wore it all over the pits!

Here you go Doc it was a racing helmet during the ride to Beech Bend and a hard hat when I got there. I found the hard hat in Steve's truck.

All -- here are the best photos from the night.
Looking down the track:

A horrible mis-match:

Grip-Grip (Anthony) had the same view of the GT-R that I would have:

This did not end well:

My best run of the night against a Rustang:

My best run of the night against a Rustang:
As Steve mentioned, I was running a different intake than the Needswings I originally had on. I had a modified AMG/SRT factory intake (even down to the paper filters) and the back-end was opened up with some filter material sandwiched in... basically, a C3-style intake.

Supercharger sounds AWESOME and the looks are certainly there, but the performance simply does not cut the mustard. I was noticing nearly a half-second loss up top from the air starvation. On the run above, my 60' was decent (not great) but keep in mind I'm running 275 street tires. The other runs I had were rubbish, I boogered the 60' on both (2.194 and 2.087) and that of course affected the times.
Last night was a research night for me. I had a feeling the "pretty" intake would cost me some time, but had no clue it was so detrimental. Butt-dyno felt great, but it's clear my haunches aren't calibrated to detect .400 seconds difference. Interesting thing on the 12.6 run, the car matched my PB trap speed... 111
The car simply pulls better across the entire range with the Needswings single. I will have to relinquish my OEM classy look, but the proof is in the pudding. It totally kills the car.
Had a blast either way though. Probably won't race again until the fall, as I know that a re-installation of the NW single will put me right back to where I was in March with my 12.3 run... no sense beating on the car in summer to see what I already know. Focus now switches to suspension and braking, so I can be ready to tackle the Dragon.

Anthony, the vids rock! Your wife did a great job.
bigjamesdean -- Mods are in my sig, but as mentioned above I was running the factory boxes last night. Normally that whole upper air cleaner assembly is removed, with just the single pipe leading to the front.
Here's a pic of the setup that netted my 12.3:
