Default My P.R. Half mile 3/16/13

Today another 1/2 mile event was held in Aguadilla airport here on my lovely Island. It rained on the way there and again while going through security. Miracles do happen and the sun came out and by noon we were ready to begin. First pass was 139.09, second pass was 139.23, equal to my previous best, then I ran 140.27 followed by 3 identical times of 140.62 mph. My car is super consistent. I was running 80/20 meth to water because the headers leaned out the AFR's. It worked and the AFR's during the runs ranged from low 11's to 12. Dyno Comp installed a bung for an EGT probe so I now know what they are. Around 1150 cruising and 1350 at WOT at the top of third and fourth.
The car was full weight, ie seats in place, stock rims and street tires, half tank of gas. So no crying if I'm faster than you guys in the Chicago 1/2 mile.
Lunch and drinks were included and the food was excellent. I really enjoyed myself. A Weistec E63 AMG was in attendance. I'll have to wait for the official times to know what it managed. I do know that he tried to run with nitrous and it was breaking up and popping badly. I hope the engine survived. Best speed of the day was a GTR that managed 197.7. Incredible.

OK, well I don't think headers, long tube, short tube, no tubes will gain you 40 hp either...dyno or no dyno...1/2, mile...whatever... Never gained that much on a V-8 Chevy...and I never worried about headers again...the side effects aren't worth it to me...burnt plug wires, heat under the hood, etc, etc... I think he ran some great times though....can't wait to see his quarter times... If it works for him....then that is a good thing. You will never see any on mine...but it's always fun to watch the different directions we all go. The fun thing is...it seems the guys willing to race their cars are all spread across the globe. Les with the heat, some out west with the heat, and south with the heat, and some with elevations issues. Not many running here in the Midwest...We have some in Germany which is close to Midwest weather, and Austrialia. It is fun to watch everyone try to push the limit. Then you get someone put one on the bottle and makes you think why all the work...10 second car...lol....

The last 1/2 mile event I couldn't break out of 138's. The event before I ran 139.23. The headers, the headers ...... the shop works on tons of 4wd vehicles AND when they threw my car on the dyno for the post header pull, they left the calibration for 4wd parasitic losses. Sooooo .... the numbers are ..... @X!#. Mounting the car with the correct calibration showed a loss in power. BUT the AFR's were closer to 14 than 13. Added some meth to get the AFR's more or less in the 12's and saw a 4 hp gain. I couldn't really believe the 41 hp gain and I can't really believe the 4 hp gain either. It doesn't matter what I believe, the power gains were small according to the mph at the end of the 1/2 mile. The headwind was between 20 and 30 knots .... just like every event at that site. I've been putting patches on my tune for a year by changing the percentage of meth to water so nothing new there either. I'll be updating the first post with a video. What the car sounds like with the headers / stock exhaust is almost the same as the downpipes with a little more tone. Off to look at my videos ..... if the darn GoPro worked. It's a finicky camera.

great to know Les.... I thought you may have finally got the meth to work for you, but didn't believe the 1st header report. Too many people think headers are going to be a big horse power maker. I will only answer with displacement. Although there are some Yapanese motors that love headers to make power...just don't think we have one of those high revving motors...great numbers either way, and I hope I have a tailwind in Chicago...lol.....

I'm uploading the video now. Next event I'll be using my drag radials. They should improve my mph a bit. Why? The car short shifts if your spinning in first gear and puts the car in second gear fairly low in the power band. I'll most likely pull the passenger seat and side mirrors too. My buddies 2012 Mustang gained 2 mph removing his side mirrors and antenna. My new goal is 145 mph.

For grip to have an idea, if he doesn't already, a 150 shot on a modded Mustang Coyote was good for 10 mph. From 138 to 148. No Unicorn tears though.

Les you could try an old AMC Trans Am Racing trick and run your car with the windshield wipers in a "vertical" position. In 1970 they accomplished faster lap times by doing so.

Great times by the way, congrats.

If it rains we won't run, I'll just take them off. It's easy enough. What would really help is an air dam or splitter of some kind. My car lifts the nose at high speeds.
