I'm putting a racing harness in my 2005 base coupe and need help locating where to mount the shoulder straps for the harness. I want to mount them in the floor of the hatch compartment. If I drill forward of the location for the spare inflator, scissors jack, etc. , is there a chance of drilling into the fuel tank? Can I access the area from underneath the vehicle? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

 

If I were you, I would crawl underneath and look around? Of course that is not always easy, as we are both about the same age.

 

I bolted mine to the floor and used a 5 point that folds away beside the seat for normal use. The straps are over the top and to the floor where I anchored them solidly. Enjoy Woody

 

I decided not to bolt the harness straps to the rear compartment floor. Instead, I configured an aluminum bar to bolt to the shock bolts for my Konis. I then attached the shoulder straps to the bar. It's light, yet sturdy. Pictures for those who would like to do the same.
