Smile me-(crossfire) vs friends 05 wrx 3-0

One of my best friends cousins that I know pretty well also just got an '05 wrx about a month ago. He wanted to break it in (manual says 1k miles, understandable) so tonight me, he, and my friend ('95 modded eclipse, see past threads for my vid compilation of our cars) go out cruising, and we end up just fooling around going back and forth on the streets. We come up to a 4 way stop and at first take of normal, and at a 10 roll, I here him honk and floor it, so immediately I jump on it, initially he was ahead, at around 70 we were about even and at 90 I started to slightly pull, at 100 I let off and was almost a whole car ahead. Now for run 2, we go over to an industrial park with a straightaway road, 4 lanes divided, about a mile+ long. So my friend in the eclipse was I guess doing his own thing, and we decided to let him fly down the road and see if there were any cops. Alright finally a run from a stop. And I'll admit I'm not a pro and not real great off the line. But we agreed on the third honk we'd go. Now he rev'd up a lil but I don't think he really built up boost and I took him off the line right away (so it was pretty much driver), but nonetheless we are honestly about even drivers. The final run, we hit going back on the other side of the road. This time my buddy pulled to the side and honked for us three times. I had an ok launch but too much tire slip. The 1-2 shift was a lil rough and right after shifting to third my foot slipped of the clutch, but no harm and when in third, is when we were about even, when i was in 4th doing 100 at about 5k rpms I was half a car ahead and pulling, that's when he let up and then I let up at around 105-110, a good distance ahead , so it was fun. I'm sure a better driver would have beat me, (turbo and all wheel). And he did pull ahead from a roll, (had a lil advantage as it kind of caught me off guard). The third run off the line he was ahead, but in the higher speeds the crossfire caught up and pulled. I just thought I'd share, any comments would be great, or advice for next time. PS. I never dropped the clutch, just lightly feathered it out somewhat, but I can never find that right spot of right before it engages. I always seem to end up inching a lil when I first rev it up a lil. Oh yeah he has a manual in case you didn't figure it out.

from a roll it would be even no matter drivers. only has ten more hp and weighs more and doesn't have great gearing and suffers alot from bad drag.

I believe it from a roll. After the dig, the wrx has no go at all on roll/highway speeds. It weighs a bit more and has the same whp as the crossfires do. Granted an excellent driver in a wrx can rip low 14's stock. So if you run into a great driver it will take you longer than the 1/4 mile to beat if not, it is a drivers race.

The WRX makes 227 hp and as your know, our Crossfires make 215, I'm not sure about the torque off hand for the WRX, our make 230 ft/lbs as you also know. I've dumped the clutch in my car once or twice, usually at about 3K and the car just hooks up, bogs a bit, but nothing too bad. I think its a good "heads up" race against one!

yes, but drivetrain loss is around 22-25% in the wrx as were ours is 15-18%, thus they make the same power. only way to rip a 14.3 or less in a stock wrx is with a 5k plus clutch drop, and the clutches historically aren't very strong.

Nice runs...Watch out once he starts modding it though. I'll add this, awd cars with mods can be very fast top end as well. The awd from a roll thing is way overrated, believe me especially when modded. I love roll races.

sorry, i hate talking about mods, because whenever it comes up, someone always makes more power, then the other person says "oh but i spent this much". just mho.

LOL, I totally understand, but i'm just saying once he adds a few (which i'm sure he will) it will be a different story if its a close race right now.

I thought it was 215 hp, 223 torque, the new 2.5 wrx has 230 hp, and has 235 torque which it produces at 3,600 rpm's vs the '05 that made 217 at 4,200 not sure on the '06 but the '05 is supposed to have a 0-60 of 5.7 and a 1/4 at 14.4 @ 94.5 mph.

As far as mods, no matter how much he mods it won't look as nice as the crossfire, and i know any mods won't be major. I know the gm of a mitsu dealer, and may be in the market for a evo. I wonder what numbers that new mazda 6 all wheel will have, with 274 hp. I wonder the price too.

we are talking about wheel horsepower. and the old ones had 227, not 217. and yeah, off the line its faster but from a roll it wouldn't be.

i was referring to the '05 wrx and 217 lb torque, not hp. as far as numbers they are pretty much the same as the 05. a 2.0 turbo to a 2.5 turbo makes 3 hp? and 18 lb torque more? How come they can't get bigger numbers out of the wrx? is it cause then they would have to step it up on the sti?
