A sad day for our family
FP, I am so sorry hear to hear about your dog Sammie. Dogs and cats become our children due to the selfless love, affection and caring they give us on a constant basis.
It is a really tough time right now for your family but I am sure that Sammie knows the love of your family and knows that you will do the right thing for him when the time comes.
Your extended family is here for you if you need anything at all.

Hi guys, I'm sitting her in my hotel room in Rode Island. I just got a call from my wife. My Sammy is gone. I don't know what happened. He seemed to be recovering, but she tells me he just collapsed today while walking and could not get up on his own. She carried him and took him the the Vet, but he was pretty much gone. The cancer spread widely in his body. He had a very faint heart beat. We didn't want him suffering, so we put him down; just help the process a little so he would not suffer.
I knew we would not have him for much longer, but it hurts so much knowing I won't see him when I get back, or ever again. The last time I saw him was Monday morning when I was headed to the airport, and he was wagging his tail.
Thanks for being here for me. I apologize, but I'm taking this harder than I thought I would.

Your Wife not only did Sammy a favor, she did one for you too.
When we had to put our 14 year old Airedale down, he went to sleep in our arms, and I cried like a baby.
Our thoughts are with you and your family.
FP - You are in my thoughts.
That is the drawback to having a pet/furry member of the family. They don't live as long as us.
You just have to love them as much as you can, give them the best life you can, and let nature take its course.
A stray found me when I was 8 years old. My Mom called me when I was 21 (in college, heading home in a day or so) and said that he passed on. It was horrible and I was a wreck.
The pain will lessen, but the memories stay alive.
Sincerely,

Hearing of this makes me think of the pets I've lost in my life. It truly is one of the tougher things to have happen in your lifetime. I think dogs are the toughest pet to lose...they are at their happiest when you come home and spend a little quality time with them.
At least your last memory of Sammie will be one of him happily wagging his tail and seeing you out the door.

Our condolences, FP. As you know, the bride and I have two furry kids of our own. They bring so much joy into our lives that I just can't imagine being without them. They are the only love money can buy, and that love is unconditional.
My advice is to get another dog and give it the great home Sammy had. It will certainly ease the pain you are experiencing right now. I would believe Sammy would have wanted it that way.
Rest in peace, Sammy...

I am sorry for your loss. There is a reason we refer to them as family pets. They become such an important part of our family. I have been where you are now and know what you are feeling. Again my condolences on your loss.
