Engine, Exhaust, Transmission and DifferentialPost questions here that have to do with the engine, cooling system, air intake, exhaust, Transmission and Differential
I am looking to put in a needswings single CAI.
I have a Mercedes engine cover.
I was wondering if the engine cover is a direct swap on our NA xfires, or if we need to modify it in any way.. On the needswings they write on the one they sell that they do the needed trimming to drop onto the xfire... What are they Refering to as to these trimmings?

For engine cover removal does it just clip on, just pull it off I assume?
Yep, but only 3 points, 2 on driver side, one on passenger side.
The rear point on passenger side is not used, and the front clip thingey on the air pump is not used.
If you are talking about the cover pictured below, then MB had a tube running from the TB to the air cleaner on the E320's this come off of.
You should only use this cover if you have a single or dual CAI kit.

Thanks for the reply. The factory cover has 2 air cleaner boxes attached to the bottom and two pipes
that go the collector in the grill area. The Mercedes cover fits the engine, but what do I do for an air cleaner and related piping?

If you use that engine cover you are obliged to use the setup shown in the picture, the filter is out of site in front or the radiator.
Ok I found it. Needswings. But wow, the price stopped my heart!!. Looks like a well made set-up, but I don't have the dinero right now. Anybody know of anything cheaper that will work with that cover?
You can buy a bunch of parts and cobble one together, but the rub comes where you need to mount the IAT/MAF sensor, unless you retain the 2 OEM plastic pieces and attach the tubing to that.
Some members, like maxcichon were very successful with that approach, but then his doesn't allow for that engine cover : https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...a936b18f36.jpg
