Default Steering box adjustment?

Is there any adjustment in the steering box? Some steering boxes have a screw with a lock nut that allows you to take up any play in the gears, is there anything like that sort of adjustment?

Yes there is. Never saw a post from anyone adjusting it though. Looseness in steering typically attributed to stabilizer.

How many miles that you are asking?

I would like to adjust mine also. I am thinking of cutting a hole in the heat shield to get to the adjustment screw/nut. I would need to repair that after. Hadn't thought it all the way thru yet.

Have you replaced the steering stabilizer (dampener) yet? There is a noticeable in difference in response, when you do. Especially if its higher mileage car.

Yep it's new. And I made sure the pinch clamps are tight. I am going to put on new shocks. The looseness in the steering is more pronounced when off center. I have adjusted steering gears before to fix the problem in other cars. This one is just so hard to get to.

The adjusting screw and jam nut are on top the box just under the heat shield. I may try and fashion a wrench that can loosen the jam nut from below and make a small hole in the heat shield got the hex wrench. That is if all the planet's align and Orion decides walk across the sky.

hi, did You do this adjustment in Your car?
I tried to take off the exhaust but 2 bolts couldn't even reach with the key. So is there any other way to make this adjustment?
Thanks in advance for replay.
