Default Ideas for the CTC Nov. 11th cruise...

Hey guys,

Thought I'd let you know that last weekend I took a scenic drive with the wife. There was good scenery, a few cool small town shops, restaurants, etc.

We went up north on I35 to San Marcos.
We then headed west to Wimberley. Wimberley is a town that is a LOT like Gruene, but probably a little bigger. There are a TON of shops, a few nice restaurants, and plenty of chances to 'show off' in a group. The Women will really like this area due to the shops.
From Wimberley, we headed North to Dripping Springs. I've heard Dripping Springs is nice, but I didn't see much in the form of shops or dining. I believe there is a few places, but they probably weren't on the route I took.
We then headed west again on 290 towards 281, and turned north on 281 towards Johnson City.
From Johnson City we headed West and cruised over to Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg is a lot like Wimberley with a lot of shops, few nice restaurants, great 'main' street for showing off, etc.
From Fredericksburg we headed East again briefly, then south to Luckenbach. If you are from Texas or know anything about music, you've likely heard of Luckenbach (Willie Nelson). Cool little town.
From Luckenbach, we headed south to Boerne which has some smaller shops, a creek, and would be another nice little cruise-through town.

From there, we headed back home to Cibolo via 46 Eastbound, through Bulverde and across 281. 46 intersects FM3009 headed south bound which runs me right into I35 by my house.

The whole route was Scenic once we got off of I35. You could easily incorporate parts of this route into an Austin cruise, but head north to a few small towns/scenic routes instead of heading back south.

San Marcos is a good central meeting spot.

The only downfalls to this trip was the fact that we didn't leave until 2pm, so we missed a lot of the shops and small town fun. Also, expect a lot of bug splatters when cruising through the hill country!

Thought I'd let you all know...

That is an alternative to the Llano trip. Which will offer the most senic route and time for socializingi on the way there? Is there a destination for us to have a meal and socialize? Either trip will require us to meet at 8:00 a.m. and depart about 8:30 a.m. Thanks Shawn for researching that trip. Okay Charter members and non-members who want to go on the CTC GTG, what would you like to do? Any other ideas?

Both trips will be equally scenic. I think there will be more to see/do in Wimberley then there is in Llano.

The best meeting place(s) on that trip would be in Wimberley or Fredericksburg. Both have ample restaurant areas and we MAY be able to park together depending on the time of day and how busy it is.

BUT, it seems that there are only 3 or 4 of us interested in this cruise/meet....so I'll be anxious to see if it happens.

Just a little over a week away and there is no info, only a few folks commited, etc. Looks grim!

Bill, if you and Sampie and Roger ever want to just make a weekend cruise, let me know. If i'm in town I'm usually game to go on a hill coutry jaunt.

I cruse to Wimberley and Fredericksburg often from Austin and do know of a place in Wimberley where there is parking lot no one uses we can all park in and it is only a block away from the restaurant's down town. The drive to Dripping Springs and then most of the way to Fredricksburg is very nice but parking in downtown Fredricksburg could be a problem. I think I can make it but I will get directions to the lot if I cant and that run is chosen.

I agree with Paul W that parking in Fredericksburg could be a problem. The last time I was there I parked a long way from the resturant and didn't feel that good about where I was. That said it was a long time ago and it could have changed. Maybe we should look at reversing the route and ending up in Wimberly to eat. We could cruise through Fredericksburg but I personnaly dont care about stoping and shoping. I hope we can firm this trip up tomorrow so we can get the word out to others.

I was considering us SA guys driving up I35 and starting somewhere near Austin. This would be a bit more 'fair' to the Austin guys as we started close to San Antonio last time.

Then we can go west/south and end up at Wimberley. From there, the Austin guys head north and we head south on I35 (or whatever).

I am pretty sure us San Antonio guys are 'ok' with driving to Austin...but it seems that a lot of the Austin crowd may be shying away due to the long initial drive?

Haven't heard anything from Kevin in a while...

Henry (from my work, SRT roadster) will likely go.

I don't care to stop at the shops either...but it may be easier for some of the guys to convince their wives to let them go on a Sunday IF they can go shopping

I sent a PM to KJ, Daniel, Joe, and Tito.

KJ has replied - said he will be out of town and unable to attend.

I will follow up as I hear from the others.

Thumbs up Re: Ideas for the CTC Nov. 11th cruise...

Mollie and I would be interested in meeting you along the way somewhere, comming over from Hunt.
We go to Fredericksburgh, about once ever couple of months, week-end parking is a real problem, there are a couple of back lots, but we would never get to park together, and it is "door to door", so eating some where else would be a good idea. We could make "50" loops around the down-town block if some one wants to shop. That is about what it took us to park over Columbus day week-end...

Derf,

Couldn't remember your screen-name...glad you found the thread.

Like I mentioned, I'm open and willing to start further north so that we can start in the Austin guy's back yard as opposed to further south like we did last year.

I don't think our GTG's are for shopping. To meet and socialize along with showing off our Crossfires and welcoming those who want to be a member of the Central Texas Crossfires is on the agenda.

Tx16 to Llano where we find a place for lunch. Mapquest shows it to be about 115 miles from New Braunfels to Llano.

Talking Re: Ideas for the CTC Nov. 11th cruise...

As a recently former Texan I do like your planned trip...however there is so much in and around the Fredricksburg area that that could be a day trip in itself. Several good wineries and be sure to take the Loop north of town. Last time I was there I can highly recommend the little old school house, turned steak house/restaurant just before you get into F'burg on the highway...hopefully it's still there...Great RibEyes!
Have fun y'all!

Llano is a cool little town with a museum, antique shops, and a few small restaurants. If I remember correctly, it is mostly curb-side style pull-in parking...so it may be tough to get us all togteher.

I do recall seeing a BBQ joint and a pizza place, but don't recall the names.

I'm going, that makes four. I've inquired about Cooper's BBQ in Llano. Waiting for a response in serving up to 20 ( if we have that many) and parking for our Crossfires. Another idea, there are a couple of parks with picnic areas.
