3rd Oklahoma GTG Idea
Everyone keeps talking about "Tail of the Dragon" and how awesome it is for all those curves. How about an "Oklahoma Sidewinder". We have a very beautiful State Highway over into Arkansas. I'm referring to the Talah-Mina drive. What do you all think? There is The Queen Wilamina State Resort(spelling) to stay at,also there are places in Talahina or in Mina.
Do we want to make a weekend out of this? Just curious, some of us would have a long drive just to get to Talihina. I found a place in Talinina that seems to have a good review. I looked at a couple of dates for the Queen Lodge and they seem to be booked. Any ideas?
I looked on MapQuest and found what looks to be a route full of "twisties". Start at Talihina, go over the Scenic Byway to Mena, then take the other road over to Smithville, then back to Talihina. According to MapQuest that route would take approx. 3 1/2 hours. Then we could go some where for eats.

The Talimena Drive is a must. It is a road that you hear a lot about and has a lot of curves and elevation changes. A group of us from Tulsa did the Talimena drive last fall and had a great time. Pictures can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/tdannar/ . We spent the night in Hot Springs and went up Scenic Highway 7 to Harrison, Ar. and then back to Tulsa. The Queen Wihelmina lodge books up fast. Not usually a good place to stay unless a lot of advanced planning. Should be many other places to stay in the area. Mena should have several hotels and is just at the bottom of the hill.
If a trip to Mena is too far, there are some great roads north east of Tulsa around Lake Ft Gibson and Tenkiller up to Tahlequah. Highway 10 north of Tahlequah along the Illinois River (Bring your canoe or kayak if you want to float the river...). Use to take sportbikes on these roads and they will leave you with a smile!
Hulbert to Tahlequah: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.884399&z=10
Tahlequah to Locust Grove: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.884399&z=10
Regardless, count us in!

I am finally done with my two month whirlwind of traveling. I have a couple of trips back to New York on the horizon, but I will schedule them around the GTG.

Hello Alex, that sounds good to me. I'll have to check with the man I work for, he's going sking in March. So one of those Saturdays I won't be able to get away, that is if we want to make it more than a day drive.
Later, Smfry

That would be a great drive. I have been on a few of those roads and they are beautiful. I may be interested in meeting up with you guys and gals in Talihina and heading north with you. Then I could just head south on 69 from 412 back to Dallas.

FYI everyone, tulsawalk is my motorcycle buddy. He was also my primary motivation to go run the dragon last fall.
