Default March 17 GTG Outcome!!!

To say that everyone only had a great time would not do justice to the meaning of the word great. I had a blast meeting everyone, dinner was excellent, our track time was ear grinning fun, and the weather was outstanding. I took a bunch of video all day and between everyone else, I bet near 1,000 pictures must have been taken. We had 13 Crossfires show up, all cleaned and polished like new. We had 5 Roadsters, and 8 Coupes of which we had 5 SRT's.
As soon as everyone gets home, this site is going to be flooded with pictures. After we finished eating we drove a few blocks over to some warehouse parking lot and we lined up our cars in a couple of different groupings. We had a few limited's that were trying to make a run down the parking lot to get the spoiler to deploy for everyone, we had a couple of SRT's show the limited's how much quicker they could get across that same parking lot. We had some keys swapped and a few got to try each others rides. We had a SRT do a small burnout and donut for us. More pictures were taken, and after all that, Cliff and Q made there grand entrance. But hey, it's never to late to join the fun, maybe to have dinner, but join the fun, never. Regrettably, Kevin and Sharon couldn't attend at the last minute, and I must say, you two missed out like you can't believe. If you think we had a great time last year, you better start multiplying the fun factor many times over.
Sharon, everyone attending today extended there thoughts to you and your family. Please update us soon.
Then we headed for the track. We only did a couple of laps before the races because with all of us on the track, we caught the back of the pack in a lap so we only went one more lap and then back to the pits. We watched most of the qualifiers and then at intermission we went back out. We split it up into two groups, SRT's and Limited's. The SRT's went out first with Dan sneaking out with us in his limited. And yes, 16 y/o Ashley was driving her SRT on the track with us. I led everyone out and I don't know who was where other than Gina was right behind me, but it took about 3 laps and I caught Ashley. I then followed her for maybe about 4 more laps. By the last lap or two, she was really getting the hang of it and pushing her car very well around that track. She did very well for herself. From what I saw, I bet by her last lap or two, she would of been running past all the other limited's except for 13dog. He should have been in our group.
We went into the pits and then the rest of the group went out. By the time we pulled around, parked and I got back up to see them, they only had about one and half laps remaining. I did see 13dog passing several in that time. He led out the group and set a pace that was very brisk from what I was told. I'll view the video tomorrow.
When everyone got back to the pits, everyone had big smiles that went ear to ear. We were all talking about what a great time we had and how much fun those laps were. Afterwards, I think just about everyone told me that if we did this again, they wanted to come back. That included two that drove 12-14 hours to get here, one at almost 5 hours, several, ok, most everyone else at about 3-4 hours each way.
Overall, it was a great afternoon!

If everyone who attended wouldn't mind, please post comments about today on this thread.

Pictures and video to follow.

John

Toy did such an excellent job putting all of this together. The pass on the track, I know I probably didn't breathe for 2 laps and it took a good thirty minutes for my heart rate to come down. I'm glad I finally was able to meet the people behind the tags, the food was good, the company was good, and the track was good. All in all I'll travel from TN again to join this group. By the way it's 6:45 am central time and we have just arrived home.

I think everyone agrees that we all had a great time. Thank you John,The Toy, for all your time that you spent organizing the event. Ashley wants to know when she can do it again. ME tooo. Got back to Miami about 1:00 am.

We are still talking about all the different people, where they were from, what their cars were like, running around the track, how fast we were going, ect. ect. ect.

My favorite pictures are up top. The other can be linked: http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w...1174246019.pbw

What a great weekend!!! It was so much fun and what a great group of people -- lots of new friends.

Sharon & Kevin...we missed you. Hope everyone else made it home safely.

I've decided that I am getting much to old to close down the bar...but for the few of us that did...guys, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Now the bad news...my whole roll of film (35mm) is ruined. The film came completely out of the canister (first time that has ever happened to me -- damn Wal-Mart film) so after I thought that I had rewound it back into the canister and opened the camera...there was the film completely exposed. Good news is there are probably a 1,000 other shots from everyone else so I will grab them as I can.

Thanks John...and to everyone else...for such a good time!!!

Track time,

How did your car handle on the track? I never thought the rear would come around. Instead I felt like I was pushing the front-end, but I do believe I was running a higher line.

13,

I never felt like the rear was going to come around either, but I did feel all four tires side a time or two. Those conti's seem to give up traction way to easy. I'm sure that with more pedal that back would have started to move in the wrong direction, but with someone behind me on the track I didn't want to find out. I'd love to try that track alone and try pushing it around those turns with more pedal, and with the traction control turned off. Put that auto stick in second and then power out of the turn. I bet you could get a good drift if you stayed a bit lower on the track.
I know several have said that they didn't want to push or abuse there cars, well to me, the SRT was built to be pushed. Maybe the limited wasn't, but I really feel that the SRT-6 can take what little bit that track could ever offer. So what if I put a bit of extra wear on the right front, the fun I had was well worth a few miles of tire life.
A question for all the auto stick owners. Did you leave it in auto? Did you ever get a 2/3 upshift at redline? I felt a shift to third once on my last lap before catching Ashley.

I'd like to thank everyone again for coming to Orlando. It was really great to meet everyone and we both had a wonderful time. I'd like to see some more pictures posted.
Randy, That shot of us lined up on the track was great. I liked your slide show. Post some more, I know you took more shots than that.
13dog, The shot of us at Bubbalou's turned out incredible!! Any others?

The photo's will actually trickle in as I get time to upload them. Until then here is one.

From the left to the right we have ashley, pat, randy, John, Old man,
beside the saphire blue crossfire we have Danimal,
beside the black convertible is Robert I think, but I thought Robert was wearing red that day.
far in the background is Gator,
and to the right of the black srt in the foreground is ashley's boyfriend, whom I don't think I got his name.

It was good to meet everyone and put faces to names/cars. Seemed like everyone had a great time at dinner. I would've liked to have seen the donut session.
Yes John, Cliff and I were late but we made it out and was able to add to the numbers.

The trip to the track from the parking lot was cool all I saw was people eyeing our cars but I'm sure we all get that everyday almost.

I didn't like my track performance this time (or the last) because I really didn't want to get on the track but when in Rome...plus I didn't want to be the only one not going on the track. It was still fun though. When I had the urge to step up during the second time on the track I couldn't get pass Robert's son. Oh well I still had fun!

There was talk of an autocross track in Atlanta, anybody remember the name (Mike). I would like to call them and see what they have to offer. If there is one in Florida, who knows of its name. I think we should try and arrange a GTG at an autocross track. That would be awesome!

Sharon, I hope all is well with you and your family and hopefully you'll get a chance to make it out to the next event.

CrucialCrossfire, looks like the earliest time I can make it down your way is in May. I'll alert you ahead of time and maybe we can plan something down there.

Overall I had a great time meeting with everyone. Glad everyone made it home safely..I almost didn't. I was doing close to or maybe a little over 100 on 75N coming home yesterday and as I start to pass this semi he/she decides to start to come into my lane. I'm on rumble strips and honking my horn and the A**hole finally sees me and quickly got back over. That was a little scary but the remainder of the trip home went smoothly. There were tons of cops out to on the way home but I guess I was lucky cause everytime I slowed down just a little ways up there was a cop. Either with someone already pulled over or just waiting to pounce on somebody.

Later,
Q

I'm not sure of private events by looking over the site but maybe they do something. Also, I'm tweaking the photos that I took so more will be up by me later on today or tomorrow.

I had a great time meeting everyone and whipping Randy's SRT around the parking lot, though he was a little crazier than I was. I think we should do one in the summer somewhere just to meet up, maybe do a Poker Run or something.

Well just got home around 2:45 PM on monday afternoon I stopped sunday at 8:00 PM in North Carolina and spent the night. I did not make such good time coming traffic was heavy but I expected that. I had such a great time this weekend at the gtg seeing and meeting everyone what a great group of people. I really hated to see it end. I was going to post some pictures but after seeing the pictures that have been posted, well mine look the same as those. John (Toy) thanks again for all the arrangements and hospitality and for setting up this gtg. It was a trip that I was glad to make and would do it again in a heartbeat and will try to make it to the next one if my work schedule allows it. A weekend I'll never forget!!!

Talking Re: March 17 GTG Outcome!!!

John & all of our NEW friends. What a great time we had to the GTG!! My friend Ron & I came over from New Smyrna not knowing what to expect. It just goes to show how much we all have in common, besides our great Crossfires! My SRT6 did great at the track with Ron driving; me as a white knuckled passenger. Following John (TOY) at a safe distance, Ron put the SRT6 thru its paces. The car stuck like glue, while being close to the edge a few times. With the traction control on, it took care of the few times when the tires would start to loose traction. The Michelins never felt like they were going to break loose. Coming off the corners onto the straights flat-out in 3rd, the supercharger was really wailing, and would like to see and hear some of the videos that were taken by spectators. It don't get better than this, being able to run your car on a track, without worrying about a FOOL trying to pull out in front of you. Really gets the ADRENALIN going!! Great FUN!! John deserves our applause for staying the course and putting on a fine GTG. Those of you that didn't come, for various reasons, MUST make it next time. We all took hundreds of pictures, and here are a few of ours. Looking forward to another GTG in FL sometime soon.

Guys,

You can't believe how bummed out I am that I missed the GTG. I was looking forward to this for a very long time, but it just wasn't in the cards. The base is undergoing a tri-annual inspection and I ended up playing war games form 0530 to 2200 (10 pm) on Saturday and 0630 to 2000 (8 pm) on Sunday.

John,
As usual, you put together a top-notch GTG. Hats off to you and Marilyn. Do you have plans for any other GTGs in the future? Hopefully I will be able to get in one more GTG before leaving for DC in July.

Kevin
