hey guys, my dad just bought an '04 xf coupe 6 speed. i'm all into the performance parts in my protege 5, but my dad doesn't really like altering the factory parts. i'd like to get him an intake of some sort. what would be the best route to go? i've read the k&n replacement filters are pretty good. what about the dual cone filters with the couple inch piping? sri if i ever saw one (or 2 lol). are they any more functional than the k&n replacements? may also want to buy other parts either performance or not. any suggestions?

oh and what's up with the stupid flip up whatever it is where you rest your arm behind the shifter? everytime i rest my arm there to change gears it always flips up. what can be done to fix this? i heard there was a cupholder replacement???
please give me some tips as i am fairly new to the xf.

thanks,
AJ

Well there has been about 100 posts on all of your issues. But i will give you a quick breakdown. There is no point in adding ram intakes, unless you plan on modifying the intake into the manifold to bypass the current air filter boxes. Also with the rams you will be pulling hot air, even if you remove the existing covers behind the grille. Now there hasn't been any legit test saying this hurts or helps. But it definitely breaths hotter air. But it might look better. As far as the K&N filters get them, and keep your stock cold air intake. And for the cupholder. Either don't press it (lay your arm on it), you can change it out to the storage holder. Basically a hole in the console you put stuff in, but then you lose your only cup holder. And for other performance parts, The first thing i would say buy are K&N filters, Sprint Booster, than maybe a new pulley. Not too much need ot re-tune your ECM unless you plan on doing some other engine mods.
