Default FFS question

Hi everyone!

After 3 years of dreaming, I finally bought a Crossfire! I picked up my blaze red/charcoal auto crossfire Saturday, and have been grinning from ear to ear ever since! The more time I spend in the car, the more impressed I am by it's features, fit and finish, and overall quality/tightness. At 6'3" and 200 lbs my only complaint is getting myself in the thing.

Here is my question though. I didn't notice until the first evening that the FFS indicator flashes when I turn the car on. The first day it showed two wrenches and "-500" yesterday it showed "-600" and today it shows "-700" I guess this means I need to take it in for service? I noticed it doesn't need the oil changed for another 5k miles according to the sticker on the inside of the windshield. Reading the owners manual, I didn't realize that every day that passes since it needed a service that the number goes up by "-100". Or does the counter just need to be reset? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The manual is a somewhat confusing read to me.

The -700 means you're 700 miles overdue for an oil change...unless the service tech forgot to reset it when he did the oil change.

The number doesn't go up by 100 every day...but if you drive it 98 miles every day it will.

If you search the site you can find the service manual...in it is the procedure for resetting the FSS mileage. I'd just send it over to ya but I'm on my work computer!

BTW...I feel your pain...6'4" 198#!

You haven't said where you purchased it from - dealer/private etc.
If you bought it from a dealer, you may want to ask them if they did the service (and obtain proof) - the dealer may just have forgotten to reset the FSS
(or didn't know how to do it!!!).

I have driven it about 100 miles a day, just because I find so many reasons to drive the car! I just can't say how much I enjoy driving it.

I did buy the car from a dealership. I'm pretty sure they serviced it, because the oil change sticker on the windshield shows that I don't have to change the oil for another 5,000 miles. Plus they put brand new BF Goodrich g-Force tires on it, amongst other things. I have an owner's manual, I just need to try and make sense of how I reset the counter LOL. The wording is just confusing to me.

Thanks to people who have posted this procedure earlier.

FSS Reset

1. turn the key to the on/run position.
2. within 1 second press the **** to the left of the display twice.
3. present status for days remaining or distance traveled is displayed. within 10 seconds turn key to off.
4. press and hold **** on left side of display while turning key to on/run again. present status is displayed once more. continue to hold button. after approx. 10 seconds a tone sounds and the display shows 6,000 miles for approx. 10 seconds.
5. release the ****

You should be able to do this. It takes a few attempts to get it right. One pointer ...the 10 seconds in step 3 refers to 10 seconds after the key is turned to the ON position. You have to turn it off before that expires. Let me know how it turned out.

I've tried this several times to no avail. Maybe I'm confused with step 3. Does it just mean to turn the key off after step 2?
During step 4 a get no tone after 10 seconds, nor does the display show 6,000 miles (although the manual says it will show 7,000)

Any more advice?

Allow me to simplify...

1. Turn Ignition switch to "run"
2. Immediately push the trip odometer button twice
3. Within 10 seconds of doing step 2, turn ignition switch off.
4. Press and HOLD the trip odometer button.
5. While holding the odometer button move the ignition to run.
6. Continue holding the odometer button for about 10 seconds, or until you hear the beep.

Hope this clears things up!

OH...I almost forgot, spensley's step...

7. Peel off the sticker!

Sounds like I'm doing everything right but getting no beep or update to 6,000/7,000 miles. It currently reads -177. I've read in the manual that sometimes the FFS system will switch to "days" before service instead of miles. Could this be the problem? If so, maybe it's already been reset. The previous owner put over 3,000 miles on the car in only 10 weeks. Do you know if it could be in that "days" mode instead of miles before service? I didn't see anything in the manual explaining the causes of why it switches modes.

Keep trying. The 1st time it took about 6-7 attempts to reset it.

I've never really heard of anyone's doing this...going to days.

You mean you're 177 DAYS past your oil change? WOW!

The oil was just changed 6/7/07 with 3,100 original miles by the previous owner. He put in 5W-30 synthetic and I don't believe reset the FFS system. I just changed it again today @ 6,510 miles with the proper Mobil One 0W-40 and want to reset the system to get it back on track.

Well I finally was able to reset the FFS. Like everyone said, you just have to keep trying over & over again. Even if you do all the steps correctly, there's a hidden time interval between steps that not disclosed. Eventually you'll hit the timing right and it will work.

We tend to press the button twice and hold it in in the first step. All you have to do is press it twice and let it go. As soon as you see the mile interval left between the next service show up, turn the key to off, and follow the next step.

With the FSS reset perseverance counts! I would suspect the dealer just gave up, after all, there was a stciker on the window!

Did this and all worked fine but in front of my 7000 is the two wrenches.
They only appear when more service is needed correct?
Scheduled service "B" I believe.
Is this service due in 7000 miles or recommended now ??

You only need service when the number by the wrenches goes down to zero, or if you wait longer then it will start to read -100, -200, -300 and so on. that means you are that many miles past the recommended service.

If you just did a service, (oil change), and did he FSS reset, and it shows 7000......then you have 7000 miles to the next service.

That is schedule B, you are correct.

If you had a larger number before, then your car is making you pay for that drag race weekend with a quicker service schedule.

Changing oil huh.........sounds like someone's getting ready for a trip! Wonder where you will be going?

Thanks for the directions it worked for me after a few tries but I think I know what the issue was.
For steps 3 and 4 it should really say....

Note: You have 10 seconds to accomplish the following after doing step 2
Step 3: Turn ignition off
Step 4: Press and HOLD the trip odometer button

I'm pretty sure that's why mine worked. Someone mentioned timing as the key and I think that 10 second period was it.
