Default Warning: LET "new" WP Pulley

I just installed my "new design" waterpump pulley tonight and ran into an issue. The new pulley is smaller AND about 3 times thicker than the old paper thin design and I thought nothing of it on install. Everything bolted in place nice, the belt went on nice and I left the fan assy. out as usual for initial start up(just in case there's a problem). Once I fired it up I heard an odd noise and looked at the pulleys to see that the new WP pulley was NOT SPINNING. I quickly ran an turned the engine off and got to see my nice belt smoking and the "seized" pulley. After it cooled off I removed the belt again and could not turn the pulley by hand. I then unbolted it and saw the near completely burned off paint/coating where the belt was rubbing across and then on the inside edge I saw a gouge/scratch which was an indicator of it hitting something in back. I then traced the problem to the waterpump housing which has two spots that were stopping it from turning. Luckily I have a LOT of tools at home and happen to have a aluminum burr and grinder to grind off enough of the WP housing to clear the pulley and now it spins freely without issues. I don't know how many others have this new design pulley OR if they have had similar issues but I felt it should be thrown out here for future reference.
Here's some pics of what went down................

Mine installed without any issues.
Can't imagine what might be different with yours. Give me a few minutes and I'll go measure the depth of mine.

Ok, mine has a depth of 1 and 7/16 inch and a diameter of 4 and 1/8th inch.
How about yours?
Oh yeah, we're talkin' pulleys here.

I've only downed 2(of 3) pullies..............and almost a serpentine belt............in one weeks time. If all three pullies failed and I lost a belt I would be REALLY pissed.

Don't know what pulley you got! It's the diameter that got ya. If mine were that small it would of rubbed just like yours. There's clearance with the added diameter since you are further away from the reinforced ribs on the shaft of the water pump.
Anyone else have a pulley with a 3 3/4 OD?

I'm thinking no.

Geez, I hope when my WP pulley and idler pulley finally come in I don't have anymore proplems. I'm down one belt and without my car for probably a month before I get the new pullies. I've been without my car for only two weeks and its killing me.

That does seem a little tight to me in looking at how much clearence I have with mine. Trying to cure something that was not a real problem - it looks like LET created another one. Let's see how others do with this replacement... I would spin the heck out of it before firing up the SRT.

I'm sticking with my original WP pulley that, I think along with my idler, were actually manufactured by ASP...

Sorry for your pain...

Can you measure your pulley? The new design WP pulley is just the 185 water pump pulley.

What are the correct dimensions?
I'm running 1 7/16 inch by 4 1/8th inch.
Correct?

4.1 for the 181
3.9 for the 185

The 3.9 will work for both kits.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake and shipped him the V8 water pump pulley. I have confirmed via my stock that I am missing 1 V8 water pump pulley and I have 1 extra V6.

I'm so sorry for the mixup.

They are indentical except for the .1" difference in OD and the extra .1" on the ID.
