Crossfire Roadsters have skinny diameter painted bars with 6 tab mounting points. You will have 2 unsightly tabs showing and MOUNTING COMPLICATIONS. Why not go with polished stainless steel, heavy gauge metal, bigger diameter tubes, easy installation, all metal mounting holes are already factory drilled, only holes your needing to drilled is thru the thin plastic bulk head cap,can be media blasted for a dull finish or painted. Just my thoughts. Squirrel Crusher

if i may weigh in on this. if the slk roll bars are used on a convertible you need to know if they meet the TUV requirments. this is the saftey rating of parts to be installed in germany and most of europe.
i did a pretty though search of the american sellers and only 1 dealer had TUV approved rollbars. use of "cosmetic only " rollbars may put you in danger if involved in a rollover accident. these bars all look alike but may not be up to safety standards.
just be careful

thought Id bump this thread up. Found r 170 slk roll bars on ebay from raceland, sparks,NV for 49 and free shipping, new. I see the ones from autogrimming for 149. Wondering if this is a great deal or is there something about the autogrimming thats worth an extra 100. Both look similar. Squirrel crusher????

I don't know if they will work or not. They look the same. I really wanted to get them, but I decided to get the ones I knew would work.

Patpur pm'd me and related he had installed the $49 set with difficulty. Others say the autogrimming bars are a piece of cake to install. A closer look at the pictures I posted eariler, it appears the autogrimming's set's first or (top) bolting tab is closer to the polished (exposed fatter part) of the rollbar, aprox 1". The $49 set's top tab seems to be about 2" from the polished (exposed) part. Is this an illusion or perhaps the reason why the 2 sets seem to differ in installation effort?

I can really use some input/help on this one guys as there doesn't seem to be any posts with pics of this installation so Im sorta driving blind

I will have them at the Dragon, first $50 gets them....I was only going to install them if they would help pass NHRA tech inspection, which they won't....

OK, decided to get the autogrimming for 149, but am holding off until I can track down the template for it. Taking everything apart will be a bear but theres enough info on the forum to walk me thru....pics would help so Im going to take them when I do it. Anyone that can provide a pic of the tab part that breaks off so eaisily it would be appreciated.

Keeping fingers crossed. If anyone can provide info concerning the template for autogrimming roll bars PLEASE help me out

I can't say for certain, but I remember reading somewhere that they aren't the same. I remember thinking that it was odd that these things would fit the hardtop but not the roadster. You would think it would be the other way around.

Hello, the $49 bars do not have the extra tab hardware for the little rear window to attach when top is down. They are a direct bolt in on SLK 320/ Crossfire Coupe but require time to slide into position because of the Coupes low roof. I have no skills so I have a shop that will perform the work and Guarantee it. I got my Bars on Ebay for $79. I over paid it seems.

Just been reading these threads with interest - Im I right to assume then that the MB SLK 320 bars are the ones to use?

Could anyone mail me the template to the UK?
or can I make my own template?
What trim has to be removed?
How are the bars fixed?

All advice appreciated - this is my next mod!

Steve

I had ordered 4 factory roadster gromets and they were so tiny I took them back to the dealer. The roll bars came with a stainless plate and cheap looking gromets. Didn't use either. Don't use the stainless plate that comes with the bars for a template pattern. (It's not accurate!) I't took me three cardboard patterns before getting my pattern perfect. Just have to use a 2 9/16 hole saw to drill 4 holes thru the removed plastic cover that caps off the wall between our seats and trunk. I don't even need cover up gromets but I came up with a much more stylish tapered gromet that's a perfect pipe diameter fit. If you take the lid off a toilet tank. Look inside and in the middle you will see the one inch overflow tube that has the flush flapper attached to it. This flush assembley has a tapered neopreme seal thats (inside) the tank that you can hardly see because of the flush flapper seat. You can buy these neopreme seals seperate at plumbing supply for $1.50 each. Not to be confused with a thick ugly spunge rubber spud gasket that goes (outside) the tank between the tank and bowl. No metal cutting anywhere whats so ever or any bending for mounting the bars. Wiggle them in from behind the seat only. They will hit the head liner if you try installing from the trunk. The 4 bolt mounting holes are already factory drilled into our coupes on each side and there is a bottom stop for them to rest on. Had to buy eight washers and eight bolts #8 metric one inch long. Ten pounds free shipping weight. I've seen the same part number on E-Bay for $249.00. Bought mine on E-Bay thru Autogrimming.com for $149.00 SKU number> RB-SLK Squirrel Crusher
Hi there

Can you give any advice on removing the plastic trim cover that needs to drilled, and let me know what other trim needs to come out,
Im in UK so do you how I can get the template!

Thanks
Steve

Thanks
