Default Billet Grille Fitment

I don't know if I'm the only one this has happened to, but I thought I'd post this as a precautionary measure for those of you contemplating installation of an aftermarket billet grille !

After waiting three weeks for my billet grill from Air Baggit, I was a lil dismayed by the fit. The grill was about 3/4 of an inch too long to fit within the grill nacelle ! Granted alot of reasoning comes into being here, be it that I just replaced my whole front end due to a run in with our neighborhood DEER population. So some things may be a lil tweaked, but still I expected a little bit better fit than what I got.

Bottom line is, unless you are equipped with grinders, sanders and buffers, you may end up taking your car into the neighborhood body shop in order to get a satisfactory fitment for your grill. Other than that I am very happy with the looks and the general construction of the Air Baggit grille.

Hummm, seems I saw a thread about this just a few days ago.

I can't find the thread though.

Inferno, you are correct. Someone else just put a billet grille on and they didnt mention any issues with fit. Just that they didnt get springs to install with.

What I ended up doing is cutting about a quarter of an inch off of each strake on both ends and then grinding down the backside into a tapered edge. Not such a big deal with the right tools. But a little frustrating thinking, all I had to do was remove two bolts mount the grill and waa laa !
Didn't happen that way !

1/4" off each end is HUGE. I havent heard of anyone having to do that on the billet grille. Sounds like they made a mistake in dimension when making it. Glad you could work it out. Any pics of the fit before and after?

My install took all of 15 minutes, of course that was three years ago and probably a differant manufacturer.

Their quality control must have slipped since I got mine - it went on my car just like it was made for it .

Yeah I'm wondering now if the aftermarket frontend may have had something to do with it

At your next CTC GTG, take some measurements and compare the OEM frontend with the aftermarket. It would be good to know if the aftermarket is different size.

My billet grille fit just fine, it is longer that the OEM, and is more flush to the front but it does fit just fine, no cutting or anything. I was thinking of cutting it to slide it in farther, but the more I thought about it I decided it wasn't worth the effort. Looks great the way it is.
