Default Cabin Filter: Quality?

Check out the pic of the new cabin filter I just got. It was the only kind Advanced Auto had in stock. It doesn't have a hard plastic casing around it like my original. It feels fairly sturdy and it has some kind of reinforced casing around it. It's just not as thick as the original. It's a Purolator C38908

Has anybody used these? I'm wondering if it's worth a darn or if I should find a better one.

Thanks,

-Micah

Dude!

Anything is better than that old nasty one you took out!
I still haven't checked on my cabin filters even after 1 & 2 years of ownership. Going to do it TODAY!

Welcome to the forum! Glad you found us.

Thanks! I'm really glad I found the forum. I'm not sure I would've found either filter by myself.

I didn't take the old cabin filter out before I bought the new one. I just confirmed the location and that I didn't need any special tools to get to it. When the guy handed me the new one, I was certain he gave me the wrong thing. That thing is huge. I never woulda guessed it would've fit in there.

I saw some posts about oil changes, maybe I'll give that a shot someday...probably not though.

I still can't find the headlight level they talk about in the owner's manual. But I need to do a more extensive search here on the forums. The low beams aren't off by much, but I can notice it when I pull into the garage.

$24.99 for the cabin filter - Purolator C38908

$20.99 for a 2-pack of air filters - Purolator A45443

At Advance Auto Parts. Seemed like decent prices based on a call to O'Reilly and a quick search on the web. And considering I wanted them today and didn't want to wait.

That is the filter I put in mine about two months ago, I don't know if it is any worse or better than the original. I don't think that it was as sturdy as the original but it went in ok and seems to fill up the hole.

Some of these filters. that cost a bit more, have activated charcoal in them to remove odors. They are darker in color, maybe like the color of your original, not sure though never looked at mine.

Correct. The standard are dust filters, the upgrade is a dust & odor filter.

Micah - Which filter on partstrain.com did you buy? There are 6 of them. None are exactly $25 (I know prices have probably changed.) Also it does not say which is charcoal or not.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The fifth one down is the carbon one, it looks darker and if you click on the photo it says charcoal on the photo.

Check out this on Ebay:

OEM Mercedes W210 Cabin Air Filter CLK430 SLK230 CLK500 - eBay (item 280458280853 end time Feb-17-11 12:10:00 PST)

Shipping is a little high, but they took my lower offer which made up for some of it, plus I didn't have to pay tax. Got it in 2 days.

Cabin filter for the air that comes into the cabin. Cabin filter reduces dust and debris entering through the ventilation. cabin filter is typically a pleated-paper filter that is placed in the outside-air intake for the vehicle's passenger compartment.

Useless posts are useless and nobody here is going to get phished to your site. Phishing is illegal, stupid, and pointless.
