Front License Plate Requirement "FIX" (California)
A few years ago when I bought my Lotus Esprit, I was perplexed about the positioning and placement of the mandatory front license plate, so since I was in the entertainment industry and whenever we shot scenes on the LA freeways we were required to have CHP and LAPD escorts. I had made friends with a few of the CHP's and asked them about the issue of front license plates and they assured me that unless the cops have a "Hard-on" for you, they won't bother you, but if they just want a reason to pull you over and use the no front license plate issue as an excuse, they will...
After being pulled over 3 times in my Lotus for that very issue, I devised this scheme and aquired the California DMV vehicle code pertaining to front plates. (see attached)
When I first took delivery of my X-Fire I did exactly the same thing as with the Lotus, cut it down to ONLY the letters of the plate and attached it to the front of the car. (see pictures in album...
Well, I was pulled over in my x-fire 3 weeks ago for having the plate "Shaved" and went to court to contest... The court decided in my favor, stating the law only requires the numbers on the front plate be visible based on the vehicle code attached...

Unfortunantly that work work for us in Texas. In texas the law is that you have to see the state name on the plate.
Senate Bill 439, Section 502.409 of the Transportation Code states that any bracket or frame such as dealership, sports team and/or college alumni that covers any portion of the word Texas or any numbers of the plate can now fine the driver $200.
Secondly in texas there is now a second law which states that you cannot put anthing on or around it that may distract from the numbers or distort it (clear covers, neon, etc)
There are somethings in the works that keep going up to the state to remove this stupid law... along with it goes 4.5 million in savings to the state to only issue one plate rather then two...

you don't have to put any stickers on your windows???
we have to put the inspection sticker and the car tags there. a few years back we pulled the experation tags off the plates to prevent people from peeling them off and moved them to the windshield.

Ive always said those traffic cameras aimed at your front plate is wrongful means because those out of state yahoo's can blow thru the lights being they have no front plate. Texas needs to get real and dump the front plate.
