Default Mangaflow bad review - going back to stock

Well I went ahead and slapped on the Magnaflow #14220 today...

There are multiple problems with this setup:

1. It sound like a Chevy S10 or a Ricer that is bogging in the low RPM's

2. From the inside of the Cabin there is a huge droning sound. At 65mph in 6th gear you would be lucky to talk on the phone.

3. This muffler really needs a resonator to block the sound on the lower RPMfs. However adding one will make it sound like a ricer even more (ring ding ding ding ding bog).

4. Loss of bottom end torque. Besides the awful sound, is the first thing I noticed. I was no longer being pushed back in my seat on take off (a sign of a loss of low end torque, which was my biggest fear).

Since I will have the stock system put on tomorrow, I am guessing that this thing will cost me a total of $300-$350 of just wasted money.

I know others may feel differently but I really do beleive this modificatioin is a mistake and should be avoided. Wait for someone like borla that is making an exhaust specifically for our car rather then going this route.

hope this helps,

-marc

Maybe you are indeed drunk when you listened to it.

For the low end torque..try chipping and I bet you..It'd smoke most ricer cars around BIG TIME!

Interior sound....hmmm I can hear the wind noise more than the muffler

By the way, what's the difference between Borla and Magnaflow technology other than the price? I think its the same principle regarding unrestricted airflow

You probably need my redneck snuff chewing mechanic to install yours properly.

The difference is engineering. Borla engineers the system for the setup. The Magnaflow is just a "muffler." Not designed for a specific application. Borla's will probably include a resinator to keep the back pressure. I have "Borla" system which I got on ebay, which Borla says they didn't make, says Borla on all the parts, maybe it was made for an SLk320, fits perfect and it sounds and works fine to me. A little louder than stock, deeper tone, but I can still talk a 60-90. And I supose it does sound a little like a ricer, but what can you do - you get a "metalic whine from the engine at high RPM which is noticable when standing behind the car. Can't hear it in the car and don't know what is sounds like from a distance. I made a video with my Digital camcorder, Unfortunately don't have a web site to post it on. Anbody who wants it I'll email it to you - its about six megs.

You have to allow a break in period ( around 500 miles ) with the Magnaflow for the sound insulation to settle and a much better sound to the low end. I think there's an installation flaw with drunkiq why his Magnaflow is acting up like that or he should have been patient to break the muffler in. I bet drunkiq will also dump Borla if he judges the sound after it's being installed.

Plus, it only cost 60 bucks or a can of snuff to have a $100+ muffler installed and not as what drunkiq quoted.

As for me, I have to turn off the radio just to listen to the muffler sound when I'm accelerating...and that's fun for me . When you're accelerating from 70 and up...the sound is not as audible anymore.

Right now, I'm happy with what I have ( and the rest of the Magnaflow'ers ) and even decided not to replace it with Borla muffler ( unless it comes with a catback plus more HP ) anymore. That's what counts and I feel sorry for drunkiq that he didn't get his ear's desire

MOST of us are waiting for the release of the #140083 from BORLA and it seems like it is taking forever........................................... .
BUT, have you noticed in the advertising that the SRT6 has a "More Aggressive Exhaust Note"???
Maybe that is the solution!!!!!!
I sure wish I had known that when I was at Carlisle, I would have had them fire up one of the cars on display!!!
Who is "In the Know" out there??????????????

It cost about $250 total for the muffler and to install the magnaflow and to reverse the whole process.

No there was not a problem with installation. It was perfect. He even measured ever part of how the tips where setup and got them right. Even the people at the shop thought it was ridiculas and suggested either a resonator or reversing it. I drove around quite a bit before I posted yesterday and am sure I made the correct decision for ME.

Yes, I would have yanked off the borla if it sounded like this too. In the feature I will only do catbacks as the process to reverse this install was pretty messy with the tips.

To each their own  ,

Hey Redcross, not to go off topic, but here I go. I noticed in your album you have your windshield trim painted the same color as the car. It looks much better than stock. Can you give me details about how you went about that? Thanks.
PS , awesome car. I almost bought that color.

My local body shop did the Windshield Band, Grille and my Engine Cover and then my Art man did the logos on the Cover. @ $400 for all.
Thanks for the kudo.

Why do so many people want a cop attention getting, screaming loud, kiddie car sound? Around here, those are the cars that are always pulled over, speeding or not.

I don't understand wanting a V-8 sound either, it's a 90 degree V-6, who are you trying to fool. It is what it is. If you really want a V-8, go buy one.

It's just too much fun kicking a snot-nosed kid-punk's butt without it sounding like it took all you have to do it.

Well, all I can say is just mind your own F*c*k'ng business if we tear up our CF ops: we are just enjoying our toy and besides you're not paying for our cars anyway. If you think you're the smartest kid around because you're driving a Crossfire...grow up! The CF is a very affordable car and it isn't the most expensive car at all..not even my 911...that I would put up an attitude like that!

If you look at how you painted your engine cover, we don't mind what you do with it even if it doesn't look classy at all! You need a ribbon and a card attached to it...cause it looks like a gift wrap

What attitude?

I just don't understand why people like really loud cars.

When you said (previously)
"As for me, I have to turn off the radio just to listen to the muffler sound when I'm accelerating...and that's fun for me . When you're accelerating from 70 and up...the sound is not as audible anymore. "
I actually got interested in the magna-flow. (still am.)
I've done a few mods myself, I don't care what mods you do.

I never said anything about cost or who's paying for what. I don't care. So you kinda lost me on that comment.

A post on a public forum isn't exactly a private conversation, sorry if I interupted you.

Funny you should say my air intake looks like a gift wrap, I thought that very thing myself! I'm not that fond of the silver grooves and was planning on changing it. (it's on top of the two-part clear coat, so it'll be easy to remove)

I've always found that the ability to convey a message without having to resort to vulgarity is a much better measure of ones intelligence and maturity.

I'm sorry you read my post as a personal attack,
I really meant no offense, I was simply saying "I don't get it, it's not for me"

Matt

I like the stock sound of the Crossfire because its subtle and there when you want it.

What I don't get is why people paint around their windshield. The stock silver is unique and gives the car a classy look. Oh well to each their own.

My, we get upset easily. I Love the looks of my Crossfire and have added a couple of Aftermarket things like K& N filters, new Cat back exhaust, and Chip to increase the performance. Just like the Army - I want my X-Fire to be all it can be. Didn't really want to make it louder just improve performance without spending a fortune to do it. Which I have done.
I don't really care who thinks what about it. Its my car and my money.

I do appreciate other folks opinions and respect them regardless of what I think about it.

Each person is entitle to their own opinion withou geting bashed by some opioniated *******. To each his own.

I didn't plan to get into this but............................................... ........

Why is there more than one color car?????????
Why is there more than one type of transmission???????????????
Why is there more than one body style??????????????

BECAUSE WE DESIRE DIFFERENT THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is one person wrong because they like a green car and you prefer blue????????????

Individuals have different tastes!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't like the next door neighbors 4x4 truck, OK!!!
BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO GO NEXT DOOR AND TELL HIM YOU DON'T LIKE IT!!!

Do you tell your children not to draw pictures of trees because you don't like leaves??

Look up the word "CREATIVE"........................

Would you have your computer plus millions of other things, if someone had not been CREATIVE??????????????????

Chill.............................

Default FRIEND PRICE?

BACK OFF THE TOPIC, REDCROSS, I REALLY DONT LIKE THE WAY THE TRIM AROUND MY WINDSHIELD LOOKS BUT IM WORRIED THAT IT MIGHT LOOK WORSE IF I DONT GET A GOOD JOB DONE. MY CAR IS SSB SO THE DIFF. IS MINOR BUT MOST OF THE OTHER PIECES THAT ARE THAT COLOR ARE SOON TO BE CHROME, EXCEPT THE DOOR HANDLES AND MAYBE THE MIRRORS. THAT PIECE WONT BE CHROME (TACKY!). SO IT WILL NO LONGER MATCH ANYTHING ON THE CAR. MY ? IS, WAS 400 THE FRIEND DEAL OR STANDARD, AND IS IT PERFECT.

ALL RIGHT NOW IM ASKING FOR SOME OPINIONS FROM EVERYONE SO HAVE A BALL. I HATE TACKY, BUT ITS HARD TO IMAGINE WHAT WILL BE WITHOUT SEEING IT. SO GRILL, CHROME. LOWER TWO PIECE GRILL, MAYBE CHROME. LITTLE BARS ON THE SIDE MOCK GRILLS, CHROME. DOOR HANDLES NOT CHROME. WINDSHIELD TRIM, NOT CHROME. RIMS, ALREADY CHROME. MIRRORS, MAYBE CHROME.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS, AND DONT BE NICE ABOUT IT. TELL THE TRUTH.

A little bit "Previous Customer" pricing...........but I think it is in the ballpark.
I'm not sure if the windshield trim is removable but I think it is, especially if the windshield had to be replaced.
I'm glad to hear that you are seeking a balance with all chrome and not half and half.
When I had my grille done I had them paint over the chrome strips, you might want to check with the body shop and see if they come off before painting.
I guess we should be in "MODS" discussion area.
Sorry Muffler Gang!!

I don't really like chrome mainly because it pits and peels, but also I like the silver finish on the XF.I would like a brush stainless or aluminum look on the grills though because I don't like the dark plastic unpainted part or the plastic lower ones.[/quote]
