Default Giving Up On Supercharger / Intercooler etc.

Well guys:

After extensive research on the purchase and install of the OEM supercharger / intercooler etc. I am giving-up the ship after having a lengthy converversation with the owner of "Turbo Performance" today. With his 30 years + of experience he said that the Mercedes is probably the most difficult to install properly because of the # of electronic sensors integrated into the powertrain.

Also had a lengthy convert. with "Brabus N.A" in Newport Beach... And they offer a completely new 3.8L 300 hp engine ported, polished etc. (Non Supercharged), no suspension work etc. $14,000 to install and three weeks appx. install time.

I called my DC dealer today and asked her when she was taking delivery of the SRT6's. Her answer was one month... My next question was, are any of them black ?

So i'm biting the bullet and trading in my 6sp / black / grey-cedar for a 5spd / black / grey-black SRT6... I know I'm going to take it in the shorts with my trade-in even though it has less than 4k miles and I hate the auto trans for the track... but... what the hell, you only live once... I think !!!

PS she has 5 SSB's Coupes & roadsters sitting on the lot collecting dust...

Since it'll cost me more in upgrading to SRT-6, I would rather take the 14 grand upgrade for 300 HP which is just 30 HP less than the SRT-6.

But how much of the 14k would you lose on its resale value in the end? I know I don't touch second hand modded cars, as you can't guarantee the quality of the work, and invariably you have no warranty.

Thanks for doing all that research. I guess it will put the supercharger question to rest for a while. While I'm completely happy with the stock HP for everyday street driving, I know there are others who want to squeeze more out of it. Hopefully the intake and exhaust mods (plus ECU) will make the car a top acceleration contender in the sub $35,000 car class.

I look at the Brabus website and the Startech is actually $13 gee which includes mods in the exterior, interior and engine performance to 300 HP better than the Renntech 291 HP. The upgrade is not bad at all rather than trade your XF for $8-10 gran less then spend $ 25 gran more to buy an SRT-6. I think Startech ( Brabus ) is the mod we've been looking for regarding speed and more looks

I might go for it next year!

The SRT6 that I ordered is only $10,500 more than I paid for my Limited Edition...

I'll take a $3,000 hit on my four-month-old trade-in. So, $13,500 for 330HP with warranty that can be modded from that...

$200 to pull the whale tail and repaint... (will detemine the need or desire when I take delivery)

$1,200 to install paddle shifter on the wheel since they don't offer a 6spd manual...

I'll let you know how it works-out. And if delivery is on-time. You'll see it at the "Sin City Hook-up"

What about Klemann? They'll do 330 hp for about $11.5 k in just one week. (www.kleemannusa.com)

All you need to do is get a hold of the ECU tables with the addresses. Upsolute has them (at least the spark, fuel and trans line pressure tables) since they are doing ECU reflashes, then a supercharger would be a piece of cake --- keeping the engine and drivetrain in one piece might be different.....
