Default Changing odometer

Im looking at a car which has about 120k on it, but the engine was just changed because of hitting something on the freeway, and the new engine only has about 40k. Can i change the odometer to 40k, so i know its true mileage?

No, its alright. He ran over a piece of debris on the highway, and it wrecked his oil pan, and his engine seized up and so he got a new engine. Body has 117k on it, which when/if i buy it and go to resell ill be sure to let the buyer know, and only 39k on the new engine.

No, it IS NOT alright. The milage of a vehicle is how many miles are on the drivetrain. If the engine hours were listed then that could and should be reset when a new engine is installed. Given our cars do not have an hour meter, what you re proposing is illegal in every state in the USA and I would guess every other country in the world that licenses and titles vehicles. If you get caught you'll face quite a hard time with the law. There are many cars on the road with title problems due to people swapping clusters and getting hardware/software that changes odometers. The feds are pretty up on this fraud. It is fraud and you have been warned.
