Default Cupholder - what should i do?

I have a leased Crossfire. I dont know if I'm going to buy it at the end of my lease. But anyway, the cupholder drives me crazy more than most people. I'm a big guy 6'3 and the way I fit in the car means my elbow is always on the exact spot of the cupholder. In an average hour long ride it probably pops up 10 times, and I've gotten very good at just hitting it back down with my elbow, its become a natural reflex for me by now, lol.

But anyway, I want to get rid of this POS.

I was just gonna duct tape it closed, but I'm worried the tape will remove the console paint when I go to remove it in 2 years. Plus it would look bad.

I really can't live with it like this.

Is there a way to remove it without breaking, that I could reinstall it later?

I'm even contemplating buying the new console out of the sr6 or roadster, whichever it is that doesn't have the cupholder. I doubt my dealer would notice when I go to return.

I'm sure you can just lift that whole part of the console out and then look underneath for a way to fix it down so the side you see doesn't look any different. I personally don't have a problem with my holder, In the UK they didn't swap the side of this unit and my elboe sits easily on the other side. I've never had it pop up when driving.

I'm sure a little epoxy would fix it.

Your hands should both be on the wheel. That will fix the problem.

I hated that stupid cupholder. Hated it for 7 months. I found that a sharp whack with the heal of my hand drove the stupid thing below the level of the housing. It is now indented about 1/2 inch. Looks good and has stayed put for over a month. Don't know if anyone can ever restore it to life and do not care. If it ever pops back up then it gets another whack.

And tape will disfigure the silver. Tried it, didn't work for long.

Just a word of warning;
My wife broke mine, it was nearly $400 to fix!
Fortunatly it was very new and the dealer covered it.

I wouldn't do anything to a leased car that can't be undone.

Hey, everyone - if you hate your cupholder, and would rather have a storage bin, I am willing to swap with you. PM me if interested, and let me know what your terms are.

...my fiancé hates the fact that my base coupe doesn't have a place for her green tea smoothies...

Oh, and BTW - I've seen the OEM cup holder online for substantially less than $400. Try about $113. Still steep, but not out of reach.

I had the same problem with the storage bin. If I hit a bump up it would come, drove me crazy. Finally got it replaced at the dealer.

There is a TSB out that allows the dealer to replace a broken "cup holder" with a storage bin, if the customer wishes. After my local service manager (not a Crossfire or 5 star dealer) saw the "cup holder", he basically said that it was broken by design and has ordered me the storage bin replacement. After it's installed, I'll post a photo - if I can figure out how on this forum.

Cool Re: Cupholder - what should i do?

I don't have this problem with the cupholder.
My problem is the _ _ _ thing puts a hole in most paper or plastic cups.

I think someone should come up with a cupholder that would replace the ashtray and expand out each direction a little bit. Who uses the ashtray anyway?

No problems with cupholder here neither. I seldom use it. And if, the 0.3l bottles fit perfectly.

I do. As cellular holder or as paper bin for used parking tickets.

I picked up the replacement storage bin for the cup holder today and swapped it out. I uploaded some pictures of the bin and the cupholder assembly.

How deep is the storage bin?

The storage bin is about 3 inches deep. Since the console has a slight angle, the depth varies to keep the bottom "level".
