Rear License Plate Screws
:?: My 2005 Crossfire has 2 sheet metal screws to hold on my license plate. When the dealership put on my temporary plate these screws stripped out. There is not any inserts or anything to really attach the screws to! I cannot believe that Mercedes would design or not design a means of attaching the license plate. I will go to my local auto parts store and buy inserts myself if the dealership can't come up with anything better then 2 holes thru the body. Has anyone else had this stupid problem?
I solved my problem this past weekend. For a $1.88, I bought a set of 4 plastic inserts that came with 8 screws at my local auto parts store. I spent about 45 minutes measuring, marking, drilling and cutting square holes in my bumper to accommodate the inserts. My license plate now fits very snug without the fear of losing it with the half-a$$ed method that was there (isn't it interesting how dollar signs look a lot like an S.....hmmm). And just for your information, there are no wires or anything else behind where the holes were drilled.
yup! same problem here, front and rear. the fronts arent bad; theyre not stripped, but the rears were completely gone. forget mercedes, even a chrysler should have some better accomodations for a rear license plate. the insert suggestions seem to work well, but i agree with the lack of thought on the manufacturers part.
