I was told you could have another ECU but it will have to be programmed for the vin. I thought about purchasing a second one for a tune.
I have two for my car one for race and one for mpg,,only the one for race gets almost the same as the one modded for mpg, so now i am setting one up for 100 + octane and the other for 93 octane both will have a tune . jim
Thanks guys, I took mine to dodge house today they told me IF I needed an ECU that I couldnt get a used one, that it was vin coded and could only get a new one to replace it.
Now IF i do need one, where can I get it recoded or reprogramed at in the Austin TX area? MB wont do it, the last idiot shop I took it cant do it, Chrysler told me I cant do it. So now where do I stand?

yes if you have the star system for the crossfire, the Mercedes one will not work on the crossfire. oh! it cost around $10,000.00,,the star system that is
This is a slightly older thread, reviving in case it's needed for future reference.
ECU's can be bought, used and coded to your vehicle. Don't listen to Mercedes!!! But it is a lot more than VIN.
Beckmann can unlock ECU's, and I believe they can code them to your vehicle. Coding is a little bit more expensive I believe, but unlocking is $250.
Rudy, and I can do either as well. Not sure on Rudy's prices, but I can do unlocks for $200, $250 for pre-coded.
All any of us need is the original and the new one. I'm also not sure on turn around time for any of the others but I could get it done the day of, or the next day latest and have it shipped back out.
To expand on the options a little more, unlocking would be used if you have Star and can run "Teach in of Drive Authorization" to program the ECU to the various modules, key data, VIN, Immobilizer etc.. from an ECU in what is considered a "virgin state".
Pre-coded would be a drop in replacement or duplicate.

The good news is that the boards are extremely durable, electrically and physically. Damaging the files is next to impossible without a ton of heat. Shorts won't even damage the files. Ask me how I know
