Hi all. What does it include on the first service? Is it only an oil change or more. Because i asked one dealer they said just an iol change which is about $77. ANd another said you have this hole tune-up which will cost $345.00. So i dont know what is what. ANy help will be great. And my car just went over the 8000 miles.

 

I don't have mine yet so I can't say what the manual says, but 8,000 miles doesn't sound right for the need for a tune-up. Did they say what it would consist of? The oil change sounds about right. Don't forget, you are talking about 8 1/2 quarts of Mobil 1.
I'm sure others will respond to your question about the tune-up.

 

Well they said they have to drain the brake oil, and check the transmition stuff.

 

you will get one of two service lights when it is time to make a trip to the dealer to be serviced.

one of the Icons is for schedule "A" service and the second is for schedue "B" service.

You can look in your manual and see what is requried for A or B. I will be having my dealer stamp each one in the manual as he does it so that my paperwork can never be questioned.

How m I sepose to know what is for what. All it does is when i turn the car on the wrench comes up and shows -200. Then turns off. One dealer said all i need is an oil change which they were charging $168 for a change. The other got this hole list they have to do which is going to cost $344 (includes flushing the trany oil, and bulshit checkups, but they charge only $75 for an oil change.. SO i dont know who to belive. Has any one done the first service and when and how much?

 

Look in the owners manual, it shows what a service A includes and what
a service B includes, an oils change will occur either for service A or B

7500 - service A
15000 - service B
22500 - service A
30000 - service B
...

 

I would definitely not pay $168 for an oil change. That's robbery. Stay away from that dealer. If he is a 5 star dealer and says that just an oil change is $168, I'd be inclined to write to DC recommending the removal of a couple of their stars.

 

umm... the filter a rings are about $9 - the full filter assembly (which you don't need) is $50.

Oil is about $5 a quart (it takes 8.5 quarts) so about $45.

Either way they are charging way too much.

it will cost you $54 for the filter, o-rings and oil... So ask them where the other 100+ dollars going?

The $75 is way closer to where it should be.

Now - this is what your maintenance log book should show needs to be done for schedule A :

1. Change Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter (as said parts are about $54)

2. Lubricate hood hinges, latch and secondary latch (sound like something they will probably try to charge for)

3. Reset FSS display (should be considered part of the oil change - heck you can do it yourself)

4. check windshield wipers and washer system (somthing that every quick oil change place checks for free)

5. Check fluid level for engine cooling system, hydraulic brake stem power steering system and windshield wiper system (hmm.. those wipers again - once again all this stuff has been topped off at every quick oil change place I have ever gone to.)

6.Inspect brake hoses and frontand rear brake pads for lining thickness (bascially they are suppose to see if your brakes are worn out - I can't see them charging for this myself)

7. Inspect tire presusre, tire condition and wear. Correct if nessussary. (basically they put air in your tires, later they will try to sell you some - This was always a courtousy check at my other dealers)

8. Inspect body for paint damage (every 2 years). (??? checking for rust or bubbles I guess...)

9. Check Chassis and supporting body parts for damage and corrosion (every two years). (same junk as above.)

10. Retighten steering locking golds (50,000 miles or 4 years.) (I guess they won't be doing this the first time)

11. Check condition of driveshart flex discs (50,000 miles or 4 years.)(I guess they won't be doing this the first time either)

12. Replace fuel filter and air filter element (60,000 or 4 year) (yet another one they won't be doing)

13. Change teh automatic transmission fluid and filter, using shell 3403 automatic transmission fluid, afterwhich it is filled for life (80,000). Manual Transmission is filled for life from the factory. (OK - this one has me on the fence - are they saying the need to do this on the first visit or is this only suppose to happen at 80,000 miles??? - you might get stuck paying for this one - someone chime in - glad I have a manual!)

14. Replace spark plugs (100,000 miles) (dang I may never have to change mine)

15. Replace engine coolant using Extended Life Coolant (100,000 miles) (woo hoo! - yet another thing I will probably never have to have done).

So basically top fluids, change oil and oil filter, and you may need to do the tranny fluid change (once again someone chime in).

The way to tell which service needs to be done is by how many wrenches show in the display. One is for schedule A, one on top of another is for schedule B. A should be the first one.

On the transmission issue, the way I interpret the manual is that you change the fluid at 80,000 for the automatic and then never again. You should never have to change the fluid on the manual transmission. The manual doesn't even mention ever checking the fluid level, which seems a little scary.

If they are trying to charge $344 for the service, they are trying to screw you and charge for a bunch of unnecessary stuff. If you have them perform all the necessary checks, it shouldn't take over an extra hour on top of the oil change. That should be about ~$70 labor on top of the ~$80 for the oil change. Most everything on there is a visual check that most people should be able to do themselves.

 

My first service cost me only $65 and consisted of me taking a short trip to the Mercedes dealer to buy a $20 filter, then down the street to R&S Strauss for $45 worth of Mobil 0W/40 Synthetic.

I then proceeded home, printed out the do it yourself first service document you can find in the respective forum, and went ahead and did it. Took me about a half hour, plus getting the parts. For the first service, most everything is just BS besides the oil change. (Check liquid levels basically)

Not everywhere carries the oil, I actually had to go to a few places to find it.. call before you go...

The next service I will bring it in to the dealer, and then the one after that, I'll probably do myself, etc...

My dealer wanted 120 for the same thing I did.. I think one place I called wanted only 79.99... but why schedule an appointment, wait forever (it always takes longer at dealers than you expect), only to have a guy who doesnt give a **** about your car do the change.. I rather do it myself with the uptmost care, and of course, cheaper.

Thanks Guys. Well i have an apointment on Monday and the thing shows -300 already. So im going to take it for an oil change and see what they say about the trany oil. Thats what got me wondering to, other then that its just bull, check this check that.

 

It's like your doctor he tells you after a 10 minute check up you are ok .That'll be $100.bucks I'll need to remove from your wallet.
