Question Trouble Light On BAS/ESP LIGHT

Anyone had their BAS/ESP light come on? Mine came on? Manual says take it to the dealer. I dropped it off today. Just thought I would ask if anyone else has had any experience with this particular problem.

Did you disconnect the battery before this happened? When fitting my door sills this happened. The manual says if the battery is disconnected this light may be on when re-attaching it. You simply have to turn the steering wheel full right lock, then full left lock and back to center again and it should then go out again. It needs to re-calibrate itself by doing this.

Never disconnected the battery. If I shut the car off and then restart it, the light will not come on until the car starts moving.

The dealer says "it's throwing a Mercedes trouble-code" and is puzzled. I'm thinking to myself: "don't they have a shop manual?!?" I mean I would think "Christ"-ler would have a shop manual specifically for the Crossfire regardless who made the car!

Have them do what was mentioned above. If the light goes away and doesn't come back on everything is fine.

I picked the car up late Monday. They said the brake light switch failed causing the light to come on on the dash. Tuesday morning when I left the house I wasn't a half mile out when the light came on again. I drove directly to the dealer which is only a couple of miles away. They called yesterday to say Chrysler finally called them back to say they "think" they need to replace a part for the antilock braking system. They are hoping to have the part on Friday.

In all fairness the guys at the dealership are great. They are as frustrated as I am with the situation. Even the actual tech came out with the service manual to talk to me. Let's hope though that this will do the trick. In reality if I do get my baby back on Friday they will have had her 8 days over this little problem.

After a second trip to the dealer I have had the car back for a week and the light is still intermittently coming on. The dealer in reality has no clue. I am waiting to hear back from them. I cannot detect a pattern for why the light is coming on. It may stay off a couple of days but then it will come on again. It seems pretty random thus far to me. And no, the battery was not disconnected. So I am clueless as to what is causing it. My boyfriend thinks it could be a loose connection of some sort. Will keep the board posted.

I think that Mercedes Ecu's are ****. I have read on different forums, of people having all sorts of problems. And I'm talk'en high end SL 55's and 600's. Here's what my gut instinct tells me. The reason why they have issues with indicator lights coming on and not knowing why. Why there are sensor malfunctions all the time, is because I think they'er under powered. Meaning the electrical is all screwy. I know for a fact they had a big recall on a lot of alternator's. Aparently they were under what they should have been puttiing out, snd eventually it shorted out the system. The reason why I know this, is because originally I wanted a white Crossfire. And the dealer I was at only had one, and it was in there shop getting a whole new deal put into it. He said if I wanted to wait for it, it would take two weeks, because they were getting the parts from Germany. I would have waited, but I needed a car, because I just sold my 02 Silverado like two days before. So I know there are some issues there. I notice the power dipping in and out at times.

Here is my 2 Cents....may or may not work.....

Had a similiar problem with my Sebring JXi Drop Top, disconnect the battery for about 15 -20 minutes (to clear fault codes), reattach battery and then do the steering wheel recalibration thing......can't hurt at this point.

I agree with Saskins...A good friend of mine has had a lot of fault code problems with his MB SL600.

If you got lights coming on, take it to a damn dealer.

Don't just disconnect and reconnect the battery. That erases whatever error code is in the ECU from whatever problem you are having. It's better to know the problem than to just assume its nothing, or to think you can try and see if it comes back on. We got warranties so why take the risk?

Well I indeed insisted the dealer take it back in for the 3rd time. They have no clue what they are going to do about the same warning light still coming on intermittently on the dash. They told me that outright. But like I told them. Something is causing it and I can't keep driving it hoping it will go away when it isn't. I like my dealership. Don't get me wrong. But at some point they have to figure this out. Better be this 3rd trip in. Thanks for the input.

Just please Lord get me out of this ugly white minivan they gave me to drive! LOL

cf and all others, i drive my car once or twice a week , and take very good care of my baby, yesterday i noticed a 8"inch diam puddle, of clear oil based fluid under my car! i was shocked to see this,my car only has 12k on the clock and had been sitting for 5 days since i had last drove it. well after letting my car idle for alittle before moving it on my way to the dealer, i put it in gear, and hit the gas pedal, and the car, lost power , wouldn,t go over 15mph,and the bas-esp light came on . it is currently at the dealer, and i,m eagerly awaiting the diagnosis. i will keep all in the loop ,as soon as i know anything!!!!

I am going to be interested in this one because I notice that you have made both exhaust and intake modifications. Let us know if the dealer gives you any hassle re warranty work on a car that has been modified like yours..
Also, is your car an AutoStick and specifically what location under the car was the clear oil like substance?

Talked to the tech today. He said the Chrysler Tech Line suggested two different brake related parts be replaced. So they are trying that. They "hope" this will fix it. But in reality he said the same thing again. It is showing Mercedes codes and they are not sure what they mean. This is the 3rd trip in for this. It is getting old!!!! The parts were to be in today and supposedly I will pick it up on Monday. Let's hope the saga ends here. I will be keeping mine fingers crossed.

SAKINS,
I've noticed the headlights would dim for a few seconds to over a minute.
I also noticed that that the radiator fan would come on at the same time. I'm assuming the fan is drawing the juice causing the head lights to dim. hmmmmm verrrrryyy interesting!!

Hi,

We have had the same problem, our the dealer couldnt find the problem, till we drove the car into him with the light on then he found a fault, changed the control module ,and now its time to replace the unit... by the way when the light comes on you wont have cruise control either, but that returns when the sensor works again.
We have a great dealer, very very helpful, so much so were about to buy another crossfire, this time we will have a roadster to keep the coupe happy!!

hi all! i got my car back today , and every thing is back to normal after having to replace the mas-air sensor probe, and there was no hassles, from anyone about my modifications on my car.as for the fluid leak they found nothing to duplicate the problem, and said my car was completely checked over , since they had my baby for 8 days ! 5 days to find the problem, and 3 days to get the part.

Thumbs up Re: Trouble Light On BAS/ESP LIGHT

Babe, thanks for the update; nice to hear that there were no hassles on the warranty work and that your car seems to be back in good running order now.
