Default Is my water pump shot?

It's the only pulley that wobbles, and it's making an awful noise. Give it to me straight doc!

How can a water pump make that much noise and not be leaking?

How many miles on your car?

125k, no leaks and the temp gauge is normal. Just started making noise this afternoon.

Well, I'm at 104,000 and I figure mine is living on borrowed time...

Release the belt tension and make sure the bolts are tight that secure the pulley to the water pump. If they're tight, maybe the pulley fractured.

Does not sound like a water pump to me, I would expect that to be a continuous growl not a knock.
Can you feel that knock on the engine block?

Well the water pump pulley wiggles when I grab it which is definitely a bad bearing. Now to order a Bosch part or settle for something from auto zone or napa?

And there goes my water pump spraying coolant everywhere. I just hope that knocking I heard before I shut her down was the impeller and not anything in the engine...like a blown head gasket.

Wow, that sounds like mine, but just a little louder. But I think mine is a rod bearing.

Mine was doing exactly the same thing. The pulley was all over the place, but no leaks at all. Took the water pump off and the bearing was completely toast and the impeller was hitting the casting, making the knock. I replaced the pump and all is good, but now the CEL came on? I hope it's just low coolant? I need to check the code.

The crazy thing with mine, is that the car on has 35 k on it....

Your CEL shouldn't come on for low coolant, that has a a separate light.

Well now the CEL went off without me resetting it? I'm not sure what that was all about?
My reader would not pull the codes, so I guess I won't know what it was?
