Overheating issue (please help)
I am asking for help on what to do about the overheating issue on my 05 Crossfire limited with 92k.
Last summer we bought this car from an auction. Not knowing any problems that it might have. It's been a very fun car and we've done a lot of work to it.
Here is a short list...
New: (cooling system)
Radiator
Radiator fan
Radiator fan control module
radiator hoses
50 amp fuse for the radiator fan
Coolant overflow reservoir
And lastly.... the thermostat
The water pump was replaced before we owned the car
Other:
Secondary air injection pump
Transmission conductor plate
steering stabilizer bar
New battery
So we replaced the radiator because it had a crack and the two radiator hoses were leaking. The fan was sparking and was popping the 50 amp fuse so those were both replaced. We had thought the fan control module was the cause of the fan not functioning so that is why that was replaced. The overflow reservoir also had a crack in it so that was replaced too. This car was clearly not taken care of with the previous owners. So I've been determined to fix all these issues because the car is unique and fun to drive. All of these parts were replaced myself. The system also has the correct new coolant.
PROBLEM
The weather has begun to get consistantly hot and when I am driving at high way speeds the temp gauge starts to rise above its normal running temp which is a tick above half way. It's not until I slow down that it begins to go down. The fan will kick on on high speed. (Sounds like a plane is taking off) I'm not sure if it just the gauge that is malfunctioning or maybe I need a new coolant temp sensor? I just replaced the theromostat this weekend hoping that would fix the issue.
If anyone knows what i should do next please give me some advice. I love this car and want to bring it back to its former glory 😉

It is not abnormal for the gauge to read a half tick above the half mark in summer with the AC on, that is about 195 deg.
Get a bluetooth OBDC adapter and the TorquePro app for your phone and you can see exactly what the temperature is doing.

I agree that running just above 1/2 is not a problem. I also recommend getting an OBD2 scanner/reader to see exactly what temps you have while driving.

And lastly.... the thermostat
The thermostat is a bypassing design that recirculates the water for faster warmup, then when warm opens to allow water to the radiator. Is the replacement a quality brand type??
The fan control should modulate the voltage to the motor starting at about 4 volts and RAMPING UP to the higher speeds, it sounds as if you are suggesting that the fan is running at full speed which is 12 volts and a scary affair to stand near. The fan should be a bit noisy but not crazy loud. You said that the fan module was replaced so that is another point to observe.
An OBDII tester is really a good idea, I got another one, the blue tooth one to run the phone, nice.
