I ran two wires the battery to the air pump and it did not activate. My thought it's dead. My question is does the gauge of the wire matter. I tried 8 and 16 gauge. Neither worked. I made sure my wires worked also.

 

8 gauge should certainly work, 16 too although it might get a bit warm.
