Telescopic wheel lock stops car from starting?

Telescopic wheel lock stops car from starting?
Can anyone enlighten me on this issue
1st happened couple of months ago car cranks no start I noticed that the telescopic wheel light was on (never seen it before I had the car 7 years) pulled the lever out and pushed it back light went off car started
this weekend it did it again however couldn't reset towed home removed lower dash adjusted the cable on the steering latch car started light on at start then off
Today car quit on way home from work
light on crank no start adjusted cable again lot of jiggling and pushing and pulling finally got it to start it then quit again 500 yards from home.
The latch is operating the micro switch and I have adjusted the wheel every which way
cranks will not start

I have pushed and pulled on wheel when running I can't replicate problem
I am having car towed now I am going to dig into it tomorrow I have a feeling something is grounding out but I also wonder if the micro switch that operates the indicator light is open and is somehow grounding the ignition circuit?
