Default My SKREEM Theory

Following my daughter's horrific accident in her 2008 Roadster, my husband and I began dismantling her Crossfire and saving parts for our own Crossfire Collection. One thing I found intrigued me... Her SKREEM was clearly from a junkyard and from a 2006 Crossfire (obviously not original to her 2008). This was done by a previous owner, unbeknownst to us. I've went back and forth on theories as to how they made this SKREEM work in her car and I suspect they did this:

1. Replaced original SKREEM with this one from a junkyard car (simple swap)
2. Grabbed key from the same junkyard car
3. Swapped original key blade into the junkyard key case (no need to change locks) -or- swapped junkyard key chip into original key case.

Unfortunately I do not know if her PCM (ECU) is original to her car, with no way to run the VIN on it. But, I believe her PCM is original to the car. Her SKREEM was not original to her car, yet her car started just fine.

My theory is that the chip in your key is synced to ONLY your SKREEM at factory, yes using your VIN, only so they can make new keys and SKREEMS for your car if necessary. But I do not believe you need to swap the PCM along with the SKREEM to get your car working, if you can not order a SKREEM for your car. Only caveat is you will not be able to order a new key for your car.... Oh wait..... You can't order a key anyway!

I intend to prove this theory using one of my Crossfires and I will update this post accordingly.

Kristi's 2008 when she bought it

SKREEM that came out of Kristi's 2008

**Edit: Here is Kristi's PCM..... That's clearly a 2008 PCM.... The Firmware date is month 9 of 2007. The hardware date is in 2006. I compared this to my 2005 PCM.... It has a Hardware date in 2003 and a firmware date one month before it was built.

Wow, if your theory proves correct, it would sure make all of us owners breathe a sigh of relief. Keep us posted and thanks for doing this.

OR >>> the PCM and SKREEM could have been programed back in the days when Chrysler still offered the service.
Do not know the history of the car.

I can program every PCM so that it works with an other Skreem. I need the PCM from the other Skreem to read out the necessary codes and program them to your existing PCM.
After that the other Skreem with her keys works with your PCM and the other PCM isn't need any more.
