No Crank, No Lights

Hello All,

I became a member of this site a few years back after I purchased a 2006 Aero Blue Limited. Fixed many items on the car from existing threads and sticky痴

My last teenager is now driving the car and we had an issue today that we have not encountered before. He moved the car so his mom could get out and then he went to leave 30 minutes later and the car was dead. No Lights, no power, no crank. Checked the battery with the meter and it is good. Pulled the RCM out and looked over the solder joints (Repaired this two years ago) and they all still look good.

At this point I知 thinking the SCREEM may be toast. Car was running fine till this incident.

Any thoughts on next items to check would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

I would check the fuses in the engine fuse block it is near the fill spout for the windshield washer fluid. If all the fuses are good should be three fuses total (2) 50A and a 200A . I would then check the ground cable under the drivers side between the transmission and the drivers side fender. If it is corroded I recommend doing the additional chassis to engine ground that many other members here have done.

Above is the link to the additional ground cable to the engine.
Please follow up with us. Or if you have more detail let us know.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

Update,

I was researching the forums for ideas on the no crank issue and my wife interrupted me as the car alarm was going off in the driveway. Key FOB worked to disarm it. Had power again. Dash lights and all power items worked. Turned the key and all went dead again. I suspect the RCM is the issue.

Any thoughts on getting another one? I知 pressed for time to get this one checked as my son starts school next week.

Hello Doc78,

I did check the fuses and they were good. Also replace the main battery ground you mentioned about 10 months ago as that had caused some issues last year.

I did disconnect the battery before I removed and inspect the RCM for bad solder joints or burned components. None found. Everything was still dead and then about an hour later the alarm started going off as described.

RCM the mostly cause?

On sale at Amazon and ebay. I don't know the turn around time with Tighed1's on rebuild is.

You would have to put the solder joints under magnification to be sure. The relays could be going bad. I would buy the extra one for 140 like most of us have and send the old one off to Tighed1. I think he charges $60. How old is the battery?

Doc78,

I should bought a spare after I repaired the last one. Will do now and send the old one for the repair by the resident professional.

The battery is about three years old but checks good.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

I would still take the battery to be tested. Most auto places will do it for free.

Agreed, I値l pull it and have it checked to be sure.

Ordered the new RCM from Amazon. I値l update the thread when it comes in.

Thank you for your input Doc78.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

Bad RCM will NOT cause total loss of electrical power. Bad fuses are bad and won't fix themselves to give power again.
Disconnect, check and clean battery connections. if that don't work try something else lol.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

Now we know it is not fuses.
Not the RCM. Its very wise to keep an extra one a lot of us do.
Not the ground wire.
We now just need to know if the battery is really good or not and to clean the battery cables connection.
Please let us know what you find out.

Battery cables replaced already. Cleaned battery terminal and connection. Same issue.

When power came back last night as soon as you try to start the car you get a clunk of the starter trying to engage and everything goes off.

Taking the battery to be checked.

One more thing off the list. Let us know what you find out on that battery.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

Well guys the battery checked bad but it was a bad ground cable. Cable was brand new 10 months ago guess it was poorly made. Anyway the car has been running great till this morning. I値l add a photo of the issue.

Oncoming car crossed the center line and my son swerved to avoid him and got the right wheels off the road and the ditch sucked him in. He is very lucky and only has a couple scratches and bumps. One mailbox post came up through the passengers floor and seat. Glad no one was with him. One note is that the driver air bag didn稚 deploy.

Re: No Crank, No Lights

Glad to hear your son was not seriously injured. As much as we love our cars they can be replaced.

Yes this was a good car and we are going to miss her. She did her job and protected the driver.
