Has anyone improvised making an interior door pull handle from a nice piece or round wood stock? Or maybe improvised any other material to make one. Looked on eBad for a replacement handle and these greedy idiots want $175 for just the handle! I've cut my finger three times on the peeling chrome on the backside of the drivers handle. I have an idea of using HVAC metal duct tape as an overlay for just the backside. I'll give it a whirl when I get a chance. If you've made something show us a picture. Thanks
Chrome tape works fine on the 'back side', properly placed it won't show. Here are a few links to a seller on ebay showing various thread colors and design. Although I have repaired my handles with the chrome tape, I also have a set of the leather covers I use periodically. The leather covers fit with velcro on the back, and made to fit the Crossfire. The first link shows the set I ordered, remaining give examples: Check out the 'other items' of the seller for more ideas. https://www.ebay.com/itm/390773649481 https://www.ebay.com/itm/232560514870 https://www.ebay.com/itm/352208603833
You can choose a style and color of stitching, seller/vendor very accommodating.
Removed pull handle today and started trying find something appealing to take care of the peeling chrome on the back side of the pull handle. The door pull fought me all the way on the left side which caused me to crack the plastic on the mount. I epoxied the two cracks and all is now good. Scraped and peeled all the flaking chrome off the back side that I could. Rough sanded the whole area and spray primed it. I then used Silver Metallic paint followed with three coats of clear coat. The chrome metal foil tape idea didn't work for me at all. I'll re-install back into the car tomorrow.
It may not look as good as chrome but so much better than the missing and peeling chrome. My middle finger has been cut three times by the peeling chrome and this will make it more safe.
