Default Cupholder - problem solved

Yes, the factory cup holder is marginal at best and cannot be used for storage and I like to keep things like sun glasses etc in them as I have in other cars.
Searched the net for a solution and came up with a Corvette accessory cup holder that we could use in the Crossfire. The Corvette folks are a bit **** and their stuff usually looks good. This is called a Travel Buddy Cup Holder for the C4 84-89 model.
It fits between the floor on the passenger side and under the lower lip of the console securing it. We have 7" of space - so cutting off the lower extended flat portion was the only mod needed for fit. Purchased from Eckler's on the net for $34.19 Item #46430

Very good find..!!...

I like that a lot. Also it looks like it blends in with the interior color scheme.

Thumbs up Re: Cupholder - problem solved

Great find, but that item # comes up as a flush mount kit for rear lights? I'll be looking at all of these options!
Thanks.

45430

(edit) Would the dual holder fit, do you think?

I initially went for the Travel Buddy dual cup holder of the later model Corvette. Turns out the cup and angle portion is much deeper than 7" that we have to the floor -- so it did not work out and sent it back. This one referenced for the older C4 Vette just makes it by cutting off all but maybe 1/8" of the flat extension at the bottom.
The console holds it tight at the top and being wedged by the stock floor mat holds it in place at the bottom.

Saw them on another site re the internet and my initial search. Try Corvette America under "accessories and gifts" then Travel Buddy cup holders.

Your suggested mounting location is great but I would like to recommend this collapsable cupholder by FISCHER (made in Germany just like the Crossfire). It is less expensive, requires no modification and it folds up when not in use
.
Fischer Cup Holder $14.99 - Ultimate Cupholders - Cup holders for 5 Series and 7 Series BMW, Z4, Porsche Boxster / Porsche 911 996, Mercedes, Audi, Acura NSX and other fine cars. The ultimate cup holder / cupholder!

It is currently also on E-Bay and that seller has some nice photographs worth checking out.

Looks good, I'll have to pick up a couple next time. For now I'm using this, $5 at Walmart, lol.

If you don't want to spend $35, I did the same thing with a standard $2 cup holder. Just heated the hook part in boiling water till I could straighten it out somewhat and tucked it up under the console skirt. It's within easy reach and doesn't bother the passenger.

How did you mount this one? It looks like the holders that came stock in the rear of a Mercedes wagon I used to have.

Since my Base model didn't come with a cupholder I needed something, lol. Haven't used it yet but time will tell regarding durability. So far it seems stout...we'll see.

Thanks so much for the suggestion on the Corvette cup holder! I've been looking for an alternative to the useless OEM cupholder that I replaced with the (more functional) storage bin.

Installed it last night and tested it out at lunch today....works great and doesn't move! Thank you!

It's an OEM Mopar accessory for the Crossfire. Bought it from my local Chrysler parts department, but it was on backorder for almost 4 months.

How bad does the Travel Buddy cup holder effect passenger seating? Does it seem to get in the way?
