Assistance please on a 'how-to'...
 

Thanks in advance... and with thanks to Alex for 'borrowing' his pictures from another thread... I've done the 'search' and this is the best I can find... soooooooooooooo...

the question....

HOW do you remove these plastic pieces 'easily' ???

To install the filter in front of the radiator, there is a little plastic piece that wedges in place next to the radiator and is held in place by 2 plugs. Normally, this piece acts as a snorkel for the stock airbox but it was unnecessary and had to be removed to fit the filter element where I wanted it .Rudy suggested that I remove the screw holding the bumper cover on near the right side headlight so that area would have a bit more give and free up some room for yanking on the snorkel. It proved incredibly difficult to remove the plugs holding it in place so I ended up going at it with a small saw to cut pieces away to make it easier to remove! Probably not the recommended way to do it but it was all I could think of at the time. One plug is located at the bottom of the piece and attaches at the metal bumper support. The other plug is located sorta behind the upper metal piece that spans the front of the engine bay (not sure what it's called!) The bottom plug was a pain to get out and I ended up prying it out with a screwdriver eventually. For the upper plug, I had to go in from behind it with a phillips screwdriver and use a hammer to pound it out. Not ideal...

I have absolutely no plans to ever put either one of mine back to stock, so I did as you did...I cut them out and tossed them in the trash...I like the looks and the performance...and if I ever sell them, so will the new buyer....I am one of those old guys who just hates to cover up a perfectly good looking motor...lol....:D

As many others, I destroyed mine getting them out. They were very brittle and 2 strikes with the chisel in the right spot made easily removable pieces. I know some have 'the touch' to remove them, but why bother, they are restrictive anyway :D

the right tool for the job... a pry ... both removed without damage... took about 15 minutes and one scraped knuckle :) done deal. There are TWO pins securing each side... had previously only seen the one... the other two were hiding!

Well, after removing those two plastic pieces... I replaced that 1 1/2 by 1" opening.. .with a 2 and 1/2 " diameter flexible tubing that ties
directly into the stock SRT air intake (also 2 1/2")... so that it is 2 1/2 all the way through... no 'choking off' the air supply just to get past
the radiator support piece... and on the front end I used a plumbing supply 4inch- 2 1/2 reducer... only in this case an increaser!... to
effect the new 'ram air' approach. This works great behind the grill supplied by SRT Six Karl... thanks! Not sure if it would fit as well
behind a stock grille... and certainly would not have the intake effect that is supplied by the more-open grillwork by Karl.



Anyway.. thought I'd share...

btw... less than $20 :) one scraped knuckle, and one minor cut on the back of the hand... war wounds !

the driver's side on mine I got out easily

the passenger side I couldn't find the last bolt and just ripped it off with my bare hands in a fit of rage :rolleyes: :D

How many of those little push in tabs did you need to remove to pull that piece out on the passenger side? I think I only found 2 but I'm guessing there were more?

there were only two on each side... on the pass side it was near the bottom, and then
another "hidden" one on the outward side right next to the headlight housing.
Drivers' side also had two, one on the inside of the bumper location and the other
on the upright. Then it was 'wiggle and jiggle' :)

I removed mine last night to install my Needswings. I used a flatblade and hammer to remove the first clip closest to the grille, then pushed the other pin from the engine side out to the bumper side and popped out. No damage

I managed to get both mine intact, wish I could say the same for my knuckles and fingers. I also suggest "soaping" the new inlet hoses that go through those openings. Seems to make them go through easier.
