Default Fuel Pump Tsb ?

Anyone run across a fuel pump TSB?... Mine is starting to rattle around inside the tank and it's bugging the heck out of me... It's sounding like a bunch of mice scratching behind my seat... LOL

I recall some of the original members of this forum having a similar problem... I did a search but can't find a reference or TSB...

There have been some posts on noise from behind the drivers seat but more like an unpredictable popping noise.

This was posted here sometime back: http://www.slk32.com/pages/fuelthump/fuelthump.html

Thanks, but this sounds like scratching (subjective term) that increases and decreases with throttle... It could be a result of the above link, but my gut is telling me it's the fuel pump inside the tank behind the seats... sounds like it's loose and the pick-up blades are scraping the tank as they spin...

HDDP, if the noise increases and decreases with the throttle then its probably not the fuel pump because the fuel pump runs at a constant speed. I would check exhaust hangers and heat shields instead.

AH HAH!!! Good point, especially since I just installed the Super Sprint headers and had the whole exhaust system apart... Sometimes two brains are better than one... I'll let you know what I find...

Nice call BOBS, to bad you can't instruct a class in "deductive reasoning" to all the Chrysler Service Reps.

Speaking of cameras, this is totally off topic, but did you see the supplemental material in "The Polar Express"? They built a real set of camera controls that operated the virtual camera in the computer just like a real camera. When they played back the motion-capture animation in the virtual 3-D world the cinematographer was able to "film" it just like it was on a live set. Very cool!

HDDP, Did you ever find the source of the noise? Was it the exhaust?

YEAH... Dumb-as* me... I forgot that I used some 1/4" zip ties to secure the muffler to the hoops, because the OEM rubber hangars keep breaking... Must have shifted a little bit after I put the headers on, and was making the noise...

I would like to pick up the topic about the fuel pump.

When I turn the key to ACC the fuel pump starts working and hearable. That's normal. But now sometimes it happens, that it sounds strange and louder. Like scratching and groaning until it reaches the operation pressure. Not always. Mostly when motor is cold and was off for longer time.

Anyone else heard abnormal sound from the fuel pump?

Thanks and greets.

Does it sound like little mice trying to scratch out of a box? I've been hearing the same and can't isolate the noise... I was thinking it was the FP, but I'm not sure... Could be my muffler hangars...

Yes. When it operates normally it sounds like little mice farting *lol*. I'm quite sure it's the pump. It can't be the muffler hangers because the car doesn't move at all ...

Today I was driving around. Heard the normal sound sound only ... clueless.

Cheers

Yep, that's it.. I recall reading somewhere that there was a TSB for the SLK320 Fuel pump and gas tank, but for the life of me, I can't find it again... I'm as perplexed as you are...

Should there be a TSB or maybe a safety recall? Mine sprung a bad leak all over the electrical connectors.
