the M3 motor slugged??? you must of been using regular oil and not synthetic. Synthetic oils don't sludge, at least that's what I understand. 8,000 miles is a bit much for oil change intervals on a performance engine. I would change oil at 5,000 and use synthetic. 3,000 mile change is only necessary for regular dinosaur oil, it can't take too much heat, so it tends to break down and sludge up which probably means that you need to install some sort of oil cooler. Actually oil never really wears out, it just gets dirty.

I just got the oil changed on my SRT-6 at a Chrysler dealership. They originally quoted me $90, but when I took it in, they wanted to charge me $145!!! They claimed that oil prices had almost doubled. I wasn't having it and told them I would only pay the original $90 they quoted me, but my question was if this is what others are hearing. The oil they claim to use was Mopar Synthetic (?).

~ the dealer uses/should use mobil 1 synthetic oil... the cost usually ranges from $90 - $125 or so... depending upon the dealer.

Same exact thing happened to me yesterday. I called up a few dealerships and was quoted a range of $100-$150. I drove 20 miles to the $100 dealership and had the work done. Afterwards, they hand me a bill for $130. NOPE. I explained that I was quoted $100. They apologized and charged me $100.

Their excuse was just like yours. The price of oil increased and they hadn't yet updated their computers yadda yadda yadda.

You don't want the Mopar Synthetic. It really is best to use the Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W40.

Try the local Mercedes dealers next time. You'll find better service and the price might be almost identical. Back when I had an Infiniti I could get a loaner car even for an oil change. If I set an appointment I was in and out in 5 minutes on my way to work and then just picked up on my way home. I wonder if the Mercedes dealer here would do that too. The Dodge or Chrysler dealers I've been to, at least around here, usually suck.

I bought my Xfire from Gage Motors in Grand Haven MI and they threw in lifetime oil changes for $19.95 each. But I have to supply my own Mobil1 for that price...they supply the filter and do the work. I put ~10k on the car each summer and change the oil in the fall a few days before putting it away for the winter.

I made the mistake of letting a garage provide the Mobil1 for my Audi once (which takes 7 qts) and was whacked with an $8/qt charge. I supply that oil as well now.

I think I just received the highest oil price quote ever, I was in the neighborhood of Lithia Dodge/Chrysler in Renton, WA and decided to pick up some extra filters. They quoted me $77 for the filter (the whole unit), they said they could not sell me just the filter. I asked how much an oil change was and he quoted me, are you guys ready, $352. Needless to say, I just walked out.

Wow! They must think you don't know any better! I had my oil changed last week, and it cost $119 and they actually set the FSS counter and everything -

Change mine today for the first time. Wasn't quite due, but I figured it sat stored all winter. I took it to my neighborhood Turtle Wax that also has a quick oil change. I was a bit Leary about having them do it, but I was with them all along. They charged me less than $70. Saw them use 8.5 quarts of Mobil1 0w-40.

Sounds like a steal to me. Oil and filter alone at Autozone are like $80. Wish I had one of those around here. They really had Mobil1 Synthetic 0w-40 in stock?

Quite impressive. I couldn't find anyone who carried it around here. I tried like 4 different places.

I sure had a hard time finding Mobil 1 0W-40. Went to Pep Boys & somewhere else before I found it at Autozone.

My wal-mart no longer carries 0w-40, won't even order it for me. So now I too get it at Autozone, although I have to order it a week before I change it...

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but ShirtADay, I just visited your site. I guess that explains your avatar. Can you get us t-shirts with the crossfire font and silhouette?

Yup. Shouldn't be a problem to accomplish...

Would just need someone to tally up shirt sizes and colors from those who are interested. It would also be great if someone wanted to create the artwork in PSD format. I'd need to collect payment up front, and the more we got together the cheaper they'd be. Would there be any serious interest?

I think there would be interest. I know I would like a few. Maybe you can start a new thread with a poll. This will give you an idea of the interest level. If you're not comfortable doing it, let me know and I'll start it.
