I needed to fit new rear tyres after clipping a kerb and damaging the tyre wall. So decided to go for 275's as recommended by some on here. They look better in the arch and I think I can notice a smother ride I think ???

They look good but what is the speed rating ? Is it the same as the original equipment tires ? Of course it doesn't matter if you have no intention of driving at high speeds.

Is the profile still 35R ? Do you know how much larger the new tires are in diameter than the original and were they less expensive ? It looks like they fill more of the wheel well.

 

They are 275/35ZR19 96Y same rating as the old ones. Not sure about diameter, but their not rubbing any were. The cost was about the same as the 255's £223 including the fitting.

I was thinking of the same after reading other posts on this. I bought mine with 255 Sport Contact 2s on when I changed them they had stopped doing those and put 255 Sport Contact 3s on and they just aren't as wide, completely different. I am now suffering from catching kerbs and fed up with how my wheels look !

If the 275s help to stop this and performance isn't altered then I will definitely go for that size and get my wheels renovated. After compariing the two supposedly same size tyres from the same manufacturer I'm not convinced there are absolute direct comparisons that can be made.

I thought about the rolling radius ( in fact talking to Uk Steve and Woody a few days ago about this very subject and don't think it will make much difference, might get my calculator out !

One of my aims is to look at everyone's tyres at the third UK meet !

Hi Paul.

I notice that the Dunlop 275's, the wall of the tyre will protect the rim better than the Mich 255's.

Hi All , Have look at my pics , i have the dunlops 275 rears , This is a constant question with replacement tires , the 275 look very wide from a low rear view ( looks great) , I'm at the 3rd meet so come take a look .
