Default Meets 2010

Soon it will be time to start thinking about some Crossfire meets for 2010
Has anyone got any ideas for this year - would anyone like to organise a meet ?

Driver Training is something I enjoy doing and have done various courses with CAT Driver Training at Millbrook Proving Ground.

This training at Rockingham Speedway has wetted my appetite for wet weather driving and skid control.

Safe driver training for company car and fleet drivers

Rockingham is a great place - would love to take the xfire round - lots of info on their website!
Welcome to the forum Bazzer! I see you are a member at CICCI as well - that makes 7 of us now!
Look forward to seeing you at the meets this year!

Thumbs up Re: Meets 2010

Hi Steve

We've already got the annual do at Billing Aquadrome in August, but we could certainly do with a few more meets.

Wheels Day near Aldershot on Good Friday is definitely worth a visit if the weather is on-side. I can easily sort that with the organisers if there's interest, and I may well be there anyway.

I've been to Rockingham many times to watch the stock car and pick up racing...great place! If we go to one of the events as a group, it has in the past always been possible to park up as a guest club and parade around the track during the lunch break...all good fun. Again, I have the contacts so could sort it if a group of us can agree on a date/event to go there for.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris

Billing is a definate - Rockingham would be a great day out, can you check out some options/dates?

This would be something new and different for us - does anyone else have a view on this?

Hi Markus

This sounds very interesting - I know some of the UK Crossfire owners have been to the "Ring" before - we will have to finf out if anyone is interested in making the trip. How many Crossfires will be going from Germany do you think?

Hi Steve,

at the moment we have 11 Crossfires that are interested in that event.
Maybe we can convince some more.

Hi Markus,

I am interested in this event. Do you have a figure on the cost to take part in the event?

I am due to fly to Spain on the Saturday 02/10/10 so could leave my car at Frankfurt airport after the event. Then Fly back to Frankfurt with a sun tan and take in a few laps of the Ring before bringing her back home.

Hi Markus

As you have seen, no interest has been shown in this event from UK owners, so unlikely we will be there with you. Thank you for your kind invitation, I do hope we can meet up some time on our travels. I am sure you will have a fantastic time, Best of Luck!

I think people want ideas of what it will cost, as well as (given the other thread) what kind of damage could be done to their cars.

I’m interested, but it would be handy to know more from those who have been there before as to what’s involved.

Both woody and Damian SRT have been several times but unfortunately didnt respond to my pm's to give us the info. Its an approx 1600km round trip to a beautifull part of the GDR not far from the Rheine Valley, an area I know quite well. On top of that there are hotel costs, ferry cost and entrance to events so all in all i'd say approx 500.00. You can drive around the circuit and risk stuffing the car or pay to ride a circuit taxi. Once there there are some fanstastic areas to visit if you can spin it out to a week.

Hi mate,

I have been four times now and its relatively cheap for a truely memorable weekend.

Costs can be broken down as follows:

Ferry - £50
Hotel - £50 - £70 per night depending on what luxury you want.
Laps - IIRC it is now 20 Euro's per lap, but the more laps you buy the cheaper it becomes.
Its about a 4 -5 hour drive from Calais depending on time of day as you pass by Brussels to get there which can be like the M25. (3 tanks of fuel there and bank)
Give the car a good service berfore you go, the usual Oil and Filter change, healthy tyre tread, plenty of meat left on the brake pads etc.

I also opt to take out Insurance through Richard Egger Insurance which covers the cost of my car only. If you cause any damage to the armco you have to pay for this yourself at about £2000 per meter. You will get noticed if you hit the armco as there are surveillance camera's and marshals dotted all around the circuit, despite it being 14 miles long. The Nurburging is a public toll road therefore legally, you should have insurance but try finding a company that covers you for the Ring.

If its your first time to the Ring, then I would go during the week as the weekend can be mayhem. The last time I was there it closed six times for an hour each time due to accidents out on the circuit. A motorcyclist has been killed there each time I have been. Even then, the circuit reopens after about an hour.

Weekdays are much quieter so therefore better for learning the circuit, and it will take you a very long time to learn it. You won't be breaking 10 minute laps on your first trip without instruction.

Talking of instruction, pay a local German for a lap and they usually oblige and take you round. Get an english speaking one and he'll explain the driving line as he's driving around.

Also worthy of note, the AA will not recover from the Nurburgring so a good idea is to have a contingency, i.e. pay a local breakdown service to tow you away from the circuit.

Read Nurburgring guides, play the X-Box or Playstation and watch DVD's before you go. They certainly do help especially recognising corners and what corner is coming up next, i.e. a Left or a Right. There are many inclines and as you climb them you don't know which way they go until your on top of them.

Keep an keen eye on your mirrors as the locals gain on you at an alarming pace.

And above all, enjoy and come back with a Ring sticker.
