Hmmm....why is it running out of the sill when I top it up.....

Thinks.....guess the -12 temperatures last week might have burst the bottle?

Question: might I be lucky and have got a hose popped off or am I up for a new bottle; the manual shows a wheel off/panel removal procedure to get to it

If you have had sustained below freezing temps. and you weren't using washer antifreeze, then it's very possible you have a very big ice cube in your bottle, rather than having a burst bottle. I had what I thought was the same problem but when the temps rose, the washers started working again.

 

I DO have washer fluid designed for very low temps in my XFire, but with temps in the teens, it seems to me to be freezing up. Works in the morning when I leave, then quits later in the day, like it's empty, but then works again when it warms up.

 

If you fill it to the top, it will leak out from the fender behind the wheel. Once the dash light comes on, only add 1 GALLON. Anymore than that and it will leak, normal.

your sprayer tips can freeze from the moisture coming from the air....clogging the line...but the bottle is fine...hope this was all it was...

 

Many thanks for all of your advice - I have put the car cover on in disgust! I will try again when the temperature get above zero again (maybe February?!)

The heated nozzle tips should stop this if they are working properly.

 

He probably hasn't got them - I haven't

 

is this a US option only like the tyre pressure sensors?

 

no US option here....the Canadians get all the good stuff....lol

 

It is my understanding that this was standard equipment on all cars after the 2004 model. I have not got it, 2004's have the auto dimming rear view mirror. I want to get the heated nozzles from a wreck.

WASHER NOZZLE

DESCRIPTION


This vehicle is equipped with Heated Washer Nozzles. The Heated Washer Nozzles eliminate freezing of the nozzles
during the colder seasons. The Heated Washer Nozzles are located in the cowl area.





The Heated Washer Nozzles are controlled by a thermoswitch that is attached to the underside of the cowl grille.

The thermoswitch turns the Heated Washer Nozzles “ON” at an outdoor temperature of 41° F (5° C) or lower and
“OFF” at an outdoor temperature of 59° F (15° C) or higher.

 

I wonder why they go on 9° above freezing.

 

I don't think we got either the mirror thing or heated nozzles in the uk in 2004

 

Maybe the area the thermostat is in is warmed by the engine a bit and they have to make an allowance for that.

 

I was thinking I had heated mirrors, but, recent weather has proven to me they are not. Bummer. The first car I had with heated mirrors (91 Dodge Daytona), I thought "What a dumb thing! Who the hell needs heated mirrors" ... but they actually helped quite a bit with fog, ice, snow...

Then I got a car with an auto dimming rear view mirror (93 T-Bird), and I thought "What a dumb thing! Who can't manage to flip the day/night switch on the freakin' mirror?" ... but after driving that, then switching to a car without it, I missed it.

 

You should have heated side mirrors, check them out - fuse?
HEATED MIRRORS - SERVICE INFORMATION



DESCRIPTION The exterior mirrors are equipped with heater elements located

behind the mirror glass (1) on each sideview mirror. With the
ignition switch turned to the ON/RUN or START positions, the
sideview mirror heater elements are powered. The heater elements
behind each sideview mirror cannot be repaired. If
faulty or damaged, the entire sideview mirror assembly must
be replaced. For complete sideview mirror removal procedures,
see sideview mirror removal in this section.

The exterior mirror heater elements receive power through fuse 6 in the Underhood Accessory Fuse Block any time the ignition switch is turned to the ON/RUN or START position.

 

Odd they would come on all the time. I thought they were turned on when you turn on the rear window defroster. In any event, mine ended up coated in a fine ice mist, and stayed that way. I'll check the fuse.

 

See how great this forum is ..... poor Sven has a problem and question about his windshield washer bottle, and we get solutions to other problems (heated mirrors, heated nozzles, how full to fill the bottle ....... I love it .....

 

I put mine back in the heated garage with the new garage door...lol.....I didn't have a clue they have heated nozzles...

 

I bet you still think they do not have a spare tire either.
