number plate screws?

Default number plate screws?

hi guys, trying to remove my number plates, there well n truley rusty screws, so bad i cant even tell what head they are, phillips or torx.

can one of you guys have a look at yours and tell me if its torx or phillips, so ive at least got a fightin chance of getting the rust out and fitting my tool in!

also, any other ideas on how to get the plates off with rusted screws?

Assuming you're talking about the screws that hold the license (tag) plates on the front bumper AND the plate on the rear, and you can't get a bite with either a phillips or torx bit, I think the best chance of getting these out (if they are as bad as you describe) is to carefully (and I do mean carefully) drill a hole in the screw, and use an appropriate sized "back out" bit. If the screws are in the bumpers, they are probably not "rusted" in, because the bumpers are not steel. Just make sure the hole you drill is centered and not too big. You don't need to go too deep, but enuff for the "back out" bit to bite....... Have fun !!!!!

Why don't you guys that live in Limey land use Waxoyl ? It is a British product! I do and I have no corrosion anywhere on my Crossfire, MG or lathe ways. Gary My screws are not OE and 8mm hex head.

Most cars in the uk the age of these cars do not need waxoyl (a product regularily used in the 70's ) as the do not rust. Sits back and waits for all the rusty uk owners to point out the error of his ways

We use Mole grips on rusty No plate screws
