Question speculation about the possibility of a new XF in the future

Alfa have been working on a new 2 seater sports car which is comming out some time next year, I think. Seeing as Fiat owns Alfa and Chrysler....can you guess where I'm going with this? Is it beyond the realms of possibility that this car might just be the basis for a new Crossfire? Fiat need Chrysler to stop losing money and Chrysler need to make some cars that are not big American gas guzzlers. A beautiful, shiny new sports car fits the bill! Apparently, they plan to merge Fiat and Chrysler so they might make a Chrysler version of this. It's a wild guess but you never know......

Its an interesting thought, Chrysler desperately need a car that people will want to own. Their offering has been dire recently and there has been no development money. The tie up should bring something new and stylish. But they also need to be able to make money out of mass market car as well. It may take a while before we see what they come up with

It might well take a few years yet. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

The high quality and cost of build prohibits re introduction. Only Mercedes could do it. gary

Not if it was based on the Alfa platform. It makes sense that they would make a new Chrysler 2 seater based on what they already have- boost Chrysler sales, provide them with a more efficient engine to meet US targets for fuel efficiency. Fiat have a poor image over here but stick a Chrysler badge on it & sales would be higher. I know it might be a wacky idea but I thought it might provoke some interesting debate :0) would XF fans buy the next generation if it was an Alfa underneath I wonder?

I wouldn't buy another crossfire unless it was a flop and I could get a new one for half its original price.

you didn't have the Saturn Sky in Europe? If not, then Alfa lifted the design from GM, which is how they made all their cash back so quick, , and so it became another incarnation as an Italian Sky

Ahh. No I'd never heard of it before. It never got released in the UK because the geniuses at GM discovered they couldn't convert it to right hand drive so after spending a fortune on developing it they only released it in the USA. My partner is a GM engineer. Apparently it was a bit of an embarrassment. Oh dear... Lol.

If the Toyota/Subaru lightweight sports coupe ever sees production, Chrysler would have to counter with the Alfa.

In the meantime, I will keep up my SRT as best as I can. I don't want to go under six cylinders or sink more than $50k in a new car

They stuck a Chrysler badge on the last one and it went over like a fart at the vicars garden party.

About 6 months ago I read in one of the US auto mags an inside source claimed that a new Crossfire might be coming courtesy of Alfa Romeo around 2013.

Found this mention on Automotorblog http://www.automotorblog.com/alfa-ro...ence-rendered/ dated from Jan 25, 2011.

There can only be one Crossfire, after our one they broke the mold. Any new 'Crossfire' will be a car with the same name. But there was only one Edsel or Titanic because they did not dare to chance fate again.
