Do not buy it from a dealer, they will take you to the cleaners. eBay is a good bet, this side of the pond you can get them for $20 to $40 each. Get a good brand, no cheap Chinese junk (no, not the kind with sails on) LOL

Don't need a "set", only 1 .... search ebay for Mercedes steering damper that fits the SLK 320

NO - only one damper, connects to the frame on one end and the steering linkage on the other.

Doggboy, what you are looking at on ebay is a steering damper which will tighten up steering .I think what you are looking for are suspension shock absorbers.

You only need one and you'll probably find getting the tracking done more useful but their cheap so no harm done

The steering damper is easy to replace yourself and cost around £30 from your local Merc Dealers parts counter. So cheap its worth replacing for peace of mind and can the difference can often be felt. Just ask for a damper for an SLK 320 Model W170

Thumbs up Re: Steering Dampers

Bit of an update on my XF, had it in a local trusted family mechanics yesterday to adjust the parking brake (was slightly off but sorted) and I wanted him to have a go over and (under) the vehicle and give me his opinion, And I was delighted with his report...steering damper needs changing as there is a bit of play on it (on it's way and he'll change for £10), everything else he said is rock solid and in great condition and I have got a bargain
Couple of days later I was at a job that was next to a car sales unit and I had a wonder in to have a look around...got chatting to owner about TT's, Porsche' etc...and he asked what I had?...I pointed at my XF and said that......anyway long story short he offered me £4k on the spot for it, from a car dealer I was pleasantly suprised by that.
I'm happy chappy now...at first I was a bit panicky having bought a car with a few minor niggles but having spent next to nothing fixing up problems I now have a great car I love driving, being seen in and by the looks of it have added value to it to.
Happy Days
