Default Hello!!

Hi All!

I have been keeping an eye out for a second hand crossfire for a few months now. I live and commute in London, and use a car during the winter because I don't like getting cold and wet on my motorbike I've been wanting the SRT-6 but never pushed the button on getting one, I think the MPG around town puts me off as I currently use a 1988 Range Rover and one of the reasons for selling it (although is LPG) is the high petrol costs. Anyway, I'm sure you have all seen the Crossfire with LPG on Ebay. I just wondered what opinions might be about using LPG on these engines. I can here engine tapping in the video, do these have hydraulic lifters? Does this generally look a good one? As it has had 6 owners in 8 year which seems quite high and also the price seems a little high too.

2004 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE GREY LPG GAS 50MPG diesel PX SWAP TT BMW 350z 330d 320d | eBay

Thanks in advance,

James

Hi, and welcome to UK Crossfires

for me, 6 owners in 8 years would put me off and I can't see the point of LPG on a Xfire maybe because I'm a petrol head and fuel economy is not an issue to me.

good luck with your search

Yes, 6 owners is a strange one! I certainly wouldn't find it necessary to install an LPG kit on one of these, but as it has one fitted, it is an attractive aspect. My old range rover does about 5MPG around town So anything better than that is a bonus!

Does the engine sound overly noisy to you?

I have sent the owner a load of questions and will see what he responds with.

I don't have a budget in mind to be honest. It would depend on the car! I would still rather have the SRT coupe (not into convertibles) but this one looks a 'sensible' option

There is far better out there for that sort of money. (I.M.O)

Yes, plus the tank takes up valuable boot capacity - interior space is already at a premium.
If you're also seriously considering an SRT, surely LPG is not really an option...?!
Looks like a genuine sale but bear in mind a good '04 with average miles is worth about £4k - assuming decent tyres & some MOT & tax. This one is close to above ave. miles (IMO) so you're being expected to pay over the odds to get the LPG and sports exhaust. You've got to really want those things - and the rest of the car has got be very good - to be worth anywhere near that price.
So, unless you're wedded to LPG, keep looking...!

I'm with them ^^^ it seems waaaay OTT - apparently a 35k XF went for sale for c.£3.5k I suspect that price you could get an LPG fitted and have the benefit of half the mileage... or £2,495 buys a LOT of petrol
