Default Rear Cats - HELP !!!

Hi gang, need your help. My XF has 23k miles and the rear cats are gone. Are there any UK members who've had this happen, if so what are our options.

If I remove the cats will the car pass the MOT?

Where can I get replacements that are affordable but still good quality.

Any help and/or advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, when you say 'GONE' what do you mean? very unusual @ only 23K also REAR cats??? only cats are at the front just before the flange to the exhuast rear section.

I thought the CATS were subject to an extended warranty, expect the handbook will say. 4 are fitted to meet more stringent emissions in USA. It has been sugggested that the rears can be removed and still comply in UK, dont know how you could confirm this though

I mean gone as in they rattle like crazy, think the inner bit has fallen off. The rattle drives me bonkers.

It would be interesting to know if our crossfires would pass the emissions test with the rear cats removed?
This is the down side to us having such an exclusive car , as in regard to information like this.
I am looking at getting the rear silencer changed if it will pass the emissions test i would get the cats removed at the same time.

Just got the results of the emissions test (MOT Standard) and the car passed no sweat , the technicians were perplexed more so as they could tell the secondary CATS were gone. With that I might just chance removing them and testing again or maybe wait till after my MOT next month before the delete . If it still passes then I will keep that set up as the exaust sounds great (IMHO). If it fails I've sourced the rear Cats for £177 incl VAT brand new.

For those who are interested I wil keep you posted.

Hi Eco Chris was spot on when he said i changed my exhaust earlier this year, mine also sounded like a bag of nail's in a dust bin, very annoying, strangly they would pass the mot & emissions,. I changed the dear part of the exhaust, using a new one they sell on e-bay, had it delivered to a local garage i used, including a new fitting kit. saved an absolute fortune, nearly £400 quid also it also has one less cat, so i only have three, passes the emissions fine, there are also links to others in the forum.. Cheers Paul.

Getting MOT done next week, will remove rear cats after and do an emissions test for the benefit of the forum. Hopefully provide pics and a scan of results.

OK so got MOT done today and the car passed even with the secondary CATS removed. I had them taken off and hollowed out and then put back on. I think the result surprised everyone, then again the car only has 23k miles and runs like new.

The sound is different and IMHO sounds great.

I will get the MOT cert scanned and posted on here by this weekend for all ye non believers.

Hi, just to clarify, I see the cats are an integral part of the system - when you say "removed" are you saying the cats were cut off, hollowed out and welded back into place? Thanks for info

That is what I am saying. I will be monitoring it as I'd like to remain compliant. Will do another emissions test in a few months.
