Default New Car

Hi guys,

Well we picked up the Crossfire at the weekend, so after several years on this Forum (mainly in relation to UK Cruiser events), I'm now an owner. The car drives great, so I'm having lots of fun.

I've been checking everything is operating correctly while I still have the attention of the dealer and I have one question so far. How long should the pneumatic pump run for each time you opertate the Central Locking? The CL is working fine but the pump runs on a bit and I want to check what the norm is in case there's an air leak in the system.

Cheers
David

Mine closes almost immediately, but when one hose was disconnected the pump ran on for about 30 seconds. Sounds like a leak

Yes it should be instant, so maybe either pump worn or a leak. Pump is in boot above o/s rear wheel arch and air pipes run to boot catch and into doors to operate catches. Lets hope its something simple! I have never heard of one failing, or a leak. Do the door pins drop down into doors completely when you lock it? If you have after market chrome door pins with domed tops you have to be careful not to screw them down too far as this causes the effect you are having, due to the door locks being prevented from locking properly. Good luck mate!

Hi Steve,

Door pins are standard. It operates reliably, it's just the pump continues to whir for up to 20 seconds when unlocking. I'll get the dealer to have a look at it. There's a few reports on the US forum - some are a loose hose and some are a faulty pump. Worse case is an SLK pump off eBay.

Cheers
David
