What was your first car?
1971 Dodge Dart Swinger. It was a hand me down from my dad in 1978 right after I turned 17, which he had bought new. I Jut picked one up same year and color this past July.
1978 BMW 728 auto (Reseda green) - in 1984.
Straight into this from the driving school Fiesta - quite a change.
Bought for Ł1800 from a friend with approx. 70k on the clock - including a private plate which I sold for Ł600!
Kept it for 5 years and roughly 60k miles - no major work needed - fantastic car.
Paved the way for a whole line of Beemers, the last of which, a lovely 1973 2002tii I only sold last year to buy the SRT6

Jon
Plate was RBT200 and sold via Registration Transfers (or similar company - can't remember now) to an R Beattie - R-B-T - geddit? - nice, eh?! - so being a Scottish name, it could actually have gone to Scotland! I reckon, even 28 years ago, he got a good deal
Mine was an AC Petite three wheeler. All aluminium body painted apple green, 385 cc Villiers engine with chain driven gearbox. Bench seat for two, suicide doors. Ł100.00 in 1966.
Mine was a John Player Special Capri 2.0S. Black and Gold with 8 spoke chrome alloys, Weber twin choke carb. Amazingly a 19 year old could insure this in 1982 - no chance nowadays. This was the last 2 door coupe I had before the Crossfire.
Cheers

I'm sure some of the Villiers engined vehicles had this strange set up.
My first car was a 1975 Datsun 620 pickup. My brother bought it for body parts to fix his '77 after he rearended a 4-runner. He sold the rest to me for $75. I took his old parts and straigtened them up and put them back on my truck. Drove it for a couple months until I could afford a rebuild kit for the engine at $75. Did a quick driveway in-frame refurb (didnt measure anything, just removed old rings and bushings and replaced with standard sized parts, new gaskets and slapped it back together) and drove the crap out of it for a couple years. Pick a color and it probably had it on the body somewhere, rust and bondo included.
Ugly, but I sure miss that old truck!

My first car was a 1954 Austin A40 Somerset, license # OYY 397, broke the crankshaft, a common occurrence, rebuilt the engine in the garden shed, whoops .... how do we put it back in. Took the head off and my Dad and I lifted it back in. Awkward to do but we had strong backs and did not know any better, that hood was high though.

Ha! Can't even remember the full reg of my first car- only remember that it was G reg Ford Fiesta (sky blue, with suspension like a jelly!) Wrote it off by reversing it into a wooden post in a park & ride; bent the subframe = MOT FAIL!
Remember the replacement though- Red Peugeot 106 J987UOG (brilliant, because it was my student car when I went to the University Of Greenwich!!) Sat it in the garage for two years and was going to use it when the scrappage scheme came along, but my brother wrote off his motor and I gave it to him. Two years!! The thing had NO RUST, and passed MOT after re-inflating the tyres and replacing a side light bulb. Phenomenal.
Just realised that my family seem to write off a lot of cars! Hmmmmm....
